Dual Velodyne VX-11s vs. Bic Acoustech PL-200

Hey all. I'm new here but I've been lurking for a while.

Just starting out with a newbie home theater - got the Energy take 5's and a Harmon Kardon AVR 1700. Just working on subs now for a pretty small apartment - BUT I want these speakers to last me a while which means they need to work in a bigger apartment/flat too. I don't have a huge budget or I'd get the Outlaw LMF-1 (I know it'd be a bit big for the small energys) but my range is <$300.

I've looked at this thread http://www.avsforum.com/t/1449563/velodyn-vx-11-dayton-sub-1200-or-bic-f12 and the guy who reviewed the vx-11s seemed to like those were better than a Bic F12, but I'm looking at the Bic PL-200, which seems to be popular here and which I ALMOST bought a few minute ago before seeing that the 2 velodyne vx-11s are only $229 currently. I can get the Bic PL-200 for ~ $280 and it seems to be much better than the F12.

What would you guys do? Again, it's a very small apartment for now, but I could be moving into a bigger apartment or house within the year.

I was also looking at dual Dayton SUB-1200s too, so any thoughts on these 3 setups? Any input is appreciated, I love this forum!

The Bic will give you the most output at the lowest frequencies.

Dual of ether of the other subs "should" provide you with a more even response over a greater portion of listening positions and help eliminate nulls (dead spots) in the bass response.

Ok, so I think the velodynes are listed at 33 hz and the bic at 22 hz.. am I going to notice that difference?

Also just to clarify I would only buy a single PL-200, not 2. I'd get two of teh VX-11s though. Still not sure what to do though

Only if you know what you're missing. Neither sub is putting out much at their lower db point compared to their peak output frequencies. That said the Bic will have a lot of output at around 30hz where even a pair of the velodynes will have virtually none.

The rated response of the dayton is listed at 25-140hz but they don't specify whether it's down 3db, 6db or more so it's hard to tell. They have good reviews on the website and people on this forum seem to like them for the money.

A pair of the daytons IMO would be a better choice than the pair of velodynes.

Given that you're in a very small apartment, I'd probably just get a PL-200 or a Klipsch RW-12D ($299 right now) for now. Then, when you move into a larger place and find that the bass is lacking, add a second PL-200 or RW-12D.

pulled the trigger on the $299 rw-12d. Hopefully it was the right decision - sounds like it's the best sub at that price point. Thanks for all your help!

Great choice, It is the best sub under $500. I just got the RW-12d and the pl-200, both fantastic subs.
