5.1 Not Working?

Got it going by re installing it, twice.

Feels like I am only getting a 2 channel signal from my HTPC.
Creative SB Z spdif out to Denon AVR 3805 in.

Testing my speakers using Creative's control panel:
Test right front and get audio out of right front AND right rear.
Test right rear and get audio our of right rear AND right front.
Same for left side. Set to 5.1 in control panel.
Same thing when testing is Windows Sound control panel.

Test speakers using receiver's test tone and speakers work individually, as they should. Receiver is set to 5.1.

Pretty sure it's a receiver setting as this is the second sound card to act this way. Just not sure where to look.

Does that soundcard do Dolby Live or dts Interactive? You need real-time encoding from 6-channel LPCM to DD/dts to get multichannel out over SPDIF.

Your GTX 660 will spit out 8-channel LPCM over HDMI. It's probably getting time to think about upgrading your receiver. I just upgraded my Yamaha RXV2500 from the same year to something modern with Audyssey MultEQ and HDMI and am extremely glad I did. That 3805 has given you 8 years. It's time to move on. smile.gif

It was my understanding that it did 5.1 over spdif but the site is not loading for the specs.
As far as replacing my receiver, it was like 1k! It should last 100 years! wink.gif

EDIT

Well, after reading some posts on the Creative forums I uninstalled everything and re-installed it. Twice.

Seems to be working now but I'll have to tweak the levels.

My RXV2500 retailed for $1200 and was the direct competitor to that AVR3805. It's time to move on. smile.gif Thankfully, something like the Denon AVR1713 for $300 is a better receiver than your 3805. You can have a significant upgrade for cheap! smile.gif

I just built a new HTPC and am waiting for the new plasmas to come out so I can get this years 65" VT50.
I'd need a receiver that would take at least 4 HDMI... biggrin.gif
