Uggg. WD TV Live smashed, need advice for something new

I have a Windows 8 PC and I am tired of WD TV Live not connecting correctly. All I do is stream 720p and 1080p content from my PC to the device (wireless). I need a device that plays all of the formats and has an optical out. Popcorn is out because it isn't wireless. What should I buy? The only online service I used on the wd was spotify, but I don't care that much about it.

Did you get fed up and smash it??

What didn't work for you? I have several incarnations of the WD streamer, and they are the most solid performers I have, I have other types too. My thought is it's the wireless aspect that is giving you issues, unless you are very close sending 1080p wirelessly is iffy at best. If you can't hard wire, I''d try power-line adapters.

It has a hard time seeing my files. Some times it sees them, some times it doesn't. The box is only 20 feet from my pc, but hardwiring is not an option.

This reminds me of my cousin who would get so mad he threw the snes out a window of a two story house, another time he smashed a sega with a bb bat, lol. Yeah I would also suggest the wireless is the problem and just hard wire or the power-line thing.

I would be screaming at Win 8 before the WDTV Live. MS has made simple file sharing progressively more difficult with each version of Windows since XP. I had absolutely no trouble getting my WD Lives to see my XP-based media PC's. I still can't get them to reliably see a Win 7 or Vista PC.
