Projector Suggestions For Sofit Install Above Screen $1500 +/-

Brother finishing off his basement and he gave me a budget for doing the TV/Audio for him.

Budget $1500 +/- for Projector
DIY Seymour AT Screen (unless others recommend something different)

Room Layout:
14'8" Wide
7'6" Height to sofits, / 8'6" center of ceiling.
Length 35', but meida room will have defined space length of about 16-17'

Rear sofit face will be 16'3" +/- from false wall

This is not a totally dark HT room, will be multipurpose room, with some light control, but not much. False wall will be black, but others neutral colors.

50% Sports / 30% TV / 20% Movies

Screen size still pending based on final seating location and PJ is suggested, but probably at least 120" wide 16:9 Screen if possible. Might go 136" wide 2.35 if I can get a zoom PJ.

Any suggestions if this is doable on this budget?

What projectors should we be looking at that will compensate this lens shift.

Try this calc, http://www.eliteprojectorcalculator.com/ and look into the Epson 8350, Epson 3010, Benq 1070, and Viewsonic Pro8200 to see if any of those would work, that are within that budget. The 3010 and Pro8200 will be the least flexible for placement, but the 3010, and 1070 are 3D. The Epsons are lcd tech if dlp is a concern for seeing (RBE) rainbows on the other two, dlp pjs. The Epson 8350 while being the most flexible, might be the least bright so check the lumens vs the ambient light, that sounds like you'll be dealing with in that room, but depending on the throw distance, it might work ok.

At 50% sports and only 20% movies I would just add a few things.

The more lumens you have the better. It is not a bat cave don't worry about "ultra contrast". You want strong balanced color more than shadow detail.
16:9 screen is the better money spent. It seems like you are going for hidden gear finished look. Unless you add screen masking and easy to use zoom (ptae7000?) it might just be complicate and expensive for it's real usage.

With your false wall have you thought about rear projection? It seems like you might have the space for this.

Most PJ in the $1200-$1500 will have lens shift, dlps are less likely but there are good examples that do. All will have manual zoom of some sort.

From research, the w1070 is a short throw PJ and will not work, the 3010's offset is to little. 8350 might work depending on light output. The Pro8200 looks like a good option, need to review that one some more and well within Budget!

Any other suggestions?

The Panasonic PT-AR100U and the Acer H9500BD are two other you should look at. A BenQ W7000 is outside your budget?

Will look at those too. Trying to get him to stretch his budget a little, but not real confident in that. He is a tight BANKER...LOL
