Center and Left being utilized

I've recently started setting up my first HT system and I've found this odd behavior that I wanted to get some input on. I have the main left and right speakers, a center, and a sub; the surrounds will be installed when I get around to it. Using a Yamaha RX-A3020, when I have a source with only 2 channel audio, like an older TV show on DVD, and I have the system set to DPro Logic or something similar, I will usually get audio out of the left and center channels. For these sources I hit stereo or straight and it goes to a 2.1 setup, but sometimes I forget if I'm just throwing something in the DVD player to watch. Is this just the nature of the beast or do I have something configured incorrectly? I've been all through the A3020's configuration and nothing jumps out at me as being wrong, but I could have easily missed something. I did some searching but my searches come up with results that mainly talk about people either discussing not using a center channel or using the same speakers for center and left/right.

Sounds like an issue with the AVR's processing. Try resetting the microprocessor and reboot it.

I think I was either wrong in thinking that or I had something setup wrong. I have been testing some more 2 channel sources and am running the Dolby Pro Logic 2 decoder, and it's working fine. Thank you for your reply.
