How Well Do Projectors handle motion?

I've been looking on the net, and not much to see there about this topic.

I'm looking to buying a projector (total newcomer) and am considering the Sony VPL-HW30ES. I'm just trying to find out how well projectors fare with motion. Is one technology better for motion than the other, and would you say projectors are better or worse than plasma for motion?

The model projector im looking at is LCOS.

I don't really know because I have always had DLP projectors. The micro-mirrors switch so fast that there is no need to ever worry about that. In the old days (five years ago) people were advise to get DLP machines for sports because the refresh rates of LCDs and LCOSs were too slow. But that was then. Today we have LCDs that switch at 240Hz. These were developed for 3D. I think you're worrying about a non-existent problem.

It's just one of the main reasons I'm replacing my plasma is because of it's motion. It never really handled 30fps too well without seeing quite a bit of judder (in video games that is)

I just don't want to really buy an LCOS projector if it's motion is going to be similar to an LCD flatscreen tv.

this is just my two cents. I've been using a 47' LCD for 4 years now, never had or even used a projector in my life. Only time I was ever even around them was when I was in HS or when I went to the theater. I finally decided to finish my garage to home theater conversion with a projector, and decided on the Epson 5020ub. Kind of a jump in the deep end spending $2500 on a projector, but I figured if I was going to do it, I'd do it right.

As far as quality goes, I haven't seen ANY blur, looks just as good as my LCD tv does, and this is projected onto a 92" screen too. Even the 3d looks nice, and I'm not even a big fan lol I played my xbox and ps3, and everything responds well, no real lag issues that bothered me. I know with the Epson, at even the bottom of the lag, it gets in at about 50's mls which to some people is a crazy amount. But I never really noticed it. Fighting games, racing games, fast paced movies. I just watched the new Total Recall (meh) which has a ton of fast cuts, and quick scenes; it looked great, and held up fine.

hope that helps

thanks for that, that helps in my decision a little. As far as I've learned, it's either LCOS which I may or may not notice motion blur, or DLP with very good motion but may see the RBE. Especially since I do sometimes still play older 50hz games.

You won't notice RBE with Sharp XV-Z17000 or Sharp XV-Z30000. They have the fastest color wheel I know of, 5x speed 6-segment. I have a hard time looking for RBE on Optoma HD33 which has 6x speed wheel (3x speed 6-segment), but Sharp has an effective speed of 10x.

DLP is best for motion, afaik. I didn't see anyone perform any motion test either.

How about the Mitsubishi HC7900DW DLP?

It seems pretty good and if I remember, it has a 6x Color wheel.
