He has this annoying nasal quality to his voice that has not improved since the premiere of the second season.

Look at his build. He has almost no muscle - Andy had a six pack, proper muscles, but was lean and he had loads of charisma. He was likeable. This guy has no charisma. He talks like some well educated Roman with a nasal issue. There is almost zero fighting technique, he just flails his arms about. What irritates me is that they had MORE than enough time to prepare Liam for the role. He could have tried to LOOK the part at the very least. But he looks like a boy among the other slaves just... very, very difficult to take seriously, so all his speeches just don't resonate ...

Yes, we're stuck with Liam and no one can replace Andy, but for me that first season is really the only season I'm concerned about. I'll watch the remaining episodes but it's just off-putting.

Completely agree.

I mean ... it's a joke :

Y'all need to get past this, the show's almost over anyway.

+1. It's kind of silly to try to compare anybody to Andy, who seemed born to play this role. Those were big sandals to fill. Liam's done a fine job as far as I'm concerned. And he clearly put in some more time in the weight room getting ready for this season. But some guys are just more genetically gifted than others. He could have 'roided up, but to his credit, it looks like he stayed healthy.

Agree. Its not like anyone watches this show for the acting. Its sexy, ultraviolent and a trashy thrill ride. Actually Spartacus is a boring role as he is the one "grownup" among the barbarians. Liam does well enough.

No Spartacus this week?!?

I don't see the results of this extra weight training. He looks rather puny. In fact I think he looked more muscular in the second season premiere which isn't saying much. Liam just looks typecast for the role.

Let me put it to you this way, he does not look like he belongs in the camp. I can't help but agree with others on this because you expect more. Although there is nothing Liam can do now to rectify these issues it's still infuriating to know that these issues could have been largely addressed.

Imagine if Crixus was recast with a slim, fragile frame and a honky voice. People wouldn't buy it. Ditto to the guy who mentioned Liam's blocked nose issues, it is a little off-putting.

Pretty personal and gory episode tonight.

Yes it was. My wife said that while she understands the reason for it she still is growing tired of it, especially the Roman punishment scene. It was also a rather wordy episode, lots of dialog between characters, so much so that I had to get translations for some of it.
This really seems to be the the beginning to the end, it appears that Sparticus and Crixas are about to part ways.

That would be historically correct....

Yes it is, we'll never know exactly what transpired but Sparticus, Crixas, and Gannicus all end up commanding separate armies. Last night just started the ball rolling.

I agree that it seemed wordier. It seemed like the writers were trying to evoke some of HBO's Rome type dialog, even more than usual.

The Roman punishment scene was difficult for me to watch. I kept thinking it's not real, but it looked very real. smile.gif

I also found it upsetting to have our lines of good and bad officially blurred as the rebels have officially crossed over. When they took the city over some carnage of the 'innocents' was referenced and shown in moderation. The slaughter of the remaining citizens left us without too many 'good guys'.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, we now know what the slave girl was doing to Ceasar. I thought it was something kinky but in fact she was cutting out what he would explain to Spartacus as his master's slave mark.

Yes,apparently that's what it was about.

What I was referring to were the lessons in Roman discipline. I normally have no problem with gore in movies or TV series, but that scene where that one Roman was being torn apart was just difficult for me to stomach.

I know that's what you meant.

We've moved away from gladiatorial battle and war battles to different types of gore.

Between the decimation and the 'liberation' of the City it was not an episode for the faint of heart.

This was the best episode this season so far.

Decimation i knew about from school. But I wonder (and they are trying to be historically accurate) of they had the other 9 kill the one. Gah
post #83 of 213
I'm so confused now... I guess they've become so big they've lost who they are... ?
I've never pictured "Decimation" (the roman act) to be this cruel... it's kind of hte shortest straw thing.. but you die in the hands of your peers..

I wonder when Spartacus and the redhead woman will kiss and make up.. get it over already...

Nice J.C. infiltrating the city like that, still at cost of some roman lives..

Could modern CGI be used to make a DVD of the series with the boobs in and blood out? Just asking.
With as much blood and boobs as there is in this series, there's a lot of CGI to work.... Not worth the time and money.....
I hear the blood banks are outraged at all the waste on Spartacus.
Another fantastic episode last night. To bad we are only getting 10 episodes and this is the last season.
I'm seeing people wondering on the Spartacus Facebook thread if Tiberius just raped HIS MOTHER. As the poster said, if he isn't screwed up enough from killing his BFF, wait until he finds this out! Thoughts?

Nice to see the rebels back on the same page again.

How about those two faced pirates? What a surprise..haha.
good pirate battle. Where is Johnny Depp when you need him? That Roman fleet was a scary site for Spartacus..eek.gif
