Question from a beginner

After my amplifier failed (it drove a couple of MS10s) I bought a Yamaha YHT-S401 soundbar in the hope that it would give me great TV sound as well as good to play mainly classical CDs. I am disappointed with it as the alleged 7.1 surround sound is fake, although it does sound good - it just isn't surround sound and is so highly directional. Even adding 2 speakers didn't improve things. So I am returning the Yamaha.

My question is - can I get a HTIB that I can set up so the TV sound comes predominantly from the direction of the TV, and the sound for CDs is set up as 5.1 surround sound. In other words, a different configuration for a different input? This is because we prefer TV sound to come from the TV direction, but playing CDs we'd prefer to enjoy surround sound. Is this possible from most HTIBs?

Yes. But we need more info on your setup.

All I have in my setup now is a Panasonic TV that is a couple of years old, so has the Viera connections etc. So I'm starting almost from scratch.

What is your budget?

My budget is pretty flexible, but I think a reasonably basic setup will be fine.

I'm in the UK and I don't think Martin Logan kit is sold here much.

Yes. What country you live in can be helpful info.
