After my amplifier failed (it drove a couple of MS10s) I bought a Yamaha YHT-S401 soundbar in the hope that it would give me great TV sound as well as good to play mainly classical CDs. I am disappointed with it as the alleged 7.1 surround sound is fake, although it does sound good - it just isn't surround sound and is so highly directional. Even adding 2 speakers didn't improve things. So I am returning the Yamaha.
My question is - can I get a HTIB that I can set up so the TV sound comes predominantly from the direction of the TV, and the sound for CDs is set up as 5.1 surround sound. In other words, a different configuration for a different input? This is because we prefer TV sound to come from the TV direction, but playing CDs we'd prefer to enjoy surround sound. Is this possible from most HTIBs?
