Still trying to configure "optimal" settings from my PS3 now that I finally upgraded to a NAD receiver [ model 777]. HDMI from PS3 to Receiver.
Call me old school, but I thought having the Dolby logo light up was a good thing? The more I read, the more I am seeing that setting the PS3 to Linear PCM and then having the receiver play PS3 games at "PCM Surround" gets you a slightly better audio feed than just going Bitstream from the PS3 and having DTS through the receiver?
RE-Cap:
Setting PS3 "BD/DVD - Audio Output FOrmat (HDMI)" to Bitstream = DTS on NAD reciver
Setting PS3 "BD/DVD - Audio Output FOrmat (HDMI)" to Linear PCM = PCM Surround on NAD receiver
[ side note that last firmware update on the PS3 really messed up some of the audio settings]

Its weak point is 60hz TV on DVD, as deinterlacing 60hz 480i is still pretty easy to get wrong. Really, any TV you'd watch on DVD is on your Netflix or Hulu account in HD anyway. The PS3 is one of the earliest Bluray players, but because of its massive install base it has had by far the longest running and best support in terms of feature updates. It will take something major like official support for 4K or 48hz 1080p 3D to make your PS3 obsolete.
