For SACD one 100% yes, because the proprietary DSD -> PCM conversion and reclocking of the vanity board alone handily beats the Oppo digital DSD to PCM signal path (either S/DIF or HDMI).
For BR, I can't say for sure, but I would expect the S/PDIF signal path to be superior. What you can do is play a 2.0 downmix of a movie on a regular Oppo into the Datasat over HDMI and S/PDIF. If the S/PDIF sounds better than HDMI, you can be near certain the modded Oppo with 4 x S/PDIF will also sound better than HDMI playing the same movie in native 5.1. The gap would widen when you install a Vanity 93 board, because of the reclocking done by the Vanity Board.
