JBL vs Klipsch sub

JBL SUB 150P
- 10" driver
- 300W RMS
- 27Hz @ -3dB

For essentially the same $180, I'd take the JBL.

The JBL subwoofers are notorious for their amplifier module giving out. I wouldn't touch it.

Funny how they never bother to put that kind of information on their product pages...

Well, if it's a known - and common - problem, I'd avoid that sub, too.

420W is the Klipsch's "dynamic power" rating. Dynamic power or peak power ratings always look more impressive than continuous or RMS power ratings.

I have two JBL subs, a 10 year old PB12 and an 8 year old E250. Never had a single problem with either of them.

Just for giggles, I entered "JBL subwoofer" into Amazon's search engine.

Of the first JBL subwoofer that came up on the list, there were sixty-five reviews and of the sixty-five reviews, twelve of them were one or two stars. That's 18.46% of sixty-five reviews.

Regarding reliability issues with current JBL subwoofer products, read the reviews and then decide; buyer beware.

- 45/65 (or 69.2%) of the reviewers gave a five-star rating.
- 52/65 (or 80%) of the reviewers gave a four- or five-star rating.
- 53/65 (or 81.5%) of the reviewers gave a rating of three stars or higher.

Not too shabby! Well, from a cup-half-full perspective, anyway...

When I buy stuff, I'm definitely a cup half empty kinda guy and besides, doesn't the sky look like it's getting ready to fall? If I'm buying something like a subwoofer and almost one in five say their experience was a bad one, I inclined to believe them and I have excellent luck with purchased items that have a cord attached.

True story, doctors wanted to operate on my back to relieve some nerve pressure. The caveat, one in ten are paralyzed from the operation. I passed and have learned to live with the nerve pressure. I don't bungee jump or find need to jump out of perfectly good airplanes either.

Are those reviews of the Sub150p? This is a fairly new model, and JBL is a huge company so no reason to assume they're using the same amp as various older models. This JBL sub was pretty well designed, and has solid measured performance, better then any under $200 sub I've seen. I've been recommending this sub for a couple months now, it's only a matter of time before it catches on as the value leader on the forums.

I have a Klipsch Sub 10 and my amp has gone out on me six times. They(Klipsch) repaired it each time, but I have my fingers crossed every time I play it. It's a nice sub when you aren't blowing amps.
