Complaints of high audible noise levels from JVC units

Hi.

I am in the market for a new projector....

I am leaning toward the JVC (x35 or x55), but noise is a major issue with me..... Can any of the current owners comment on the noise....

Does switching to the low bulb mode make the unit too dark for movie viewing.... I can control my ambient light for movie viewing, but for normal TV viewing I might have some lights on in the room..

The JVCs are some of the quietest projectors out there. If noise is of concern you'd be hard pressed to find something quieter, especially at this level of performance. I've owned three JVC models and they've all been super quiet. As far as the bulb question goes, it depends on how large your screen is.

I have the RS4810 (I believe it equivalent to the X55).

Low lamp mode is relatively quiet. However, high lamp is pretty loud.

If noise is an issue for you, and you think you'd want to use high lamp mode then it may not be the best choice

Edit: I think the RS4810 is the equivalent to the RS55, not the X55. So I'm not sure if my comparison is relevant or not.

I think the Sony VW95 is very quiet on low lamp, and pretty quiet on high lamp. Mine is mounted only about four feet from my head.

No, you were right first time the RS48/RS4810 and X55 are the same projector. I own the X35 (RS46) and can also confirm that high lamp is noisy, much more so than the previous HD350 (RS10) I owned. I use mine in low lamp, but if it dims enough to need high lamp I will have to buy a new lamp or watch loud films.
