Speaker hum

I hope someone can help with this issue.

I just purchased a Pioneer Elite sc-61.

I am using Emotiva amps and the "home theater bypass" on an Emotia XSP-1 to power he mains. I have the sc-61 connected to to the XSP by the preouts to the bypass in. Using my bluray player (via HDMI) everything is fine. When I plug in my Comcast dvr (using HDMI) I get a loud hum from my mains only.

I also tried an optical cable from dvr to sc-61 with the same result.

Any ideas?

Your cable connection may be the issue. A quick an inexpensive test would to be to try this TV Ground Loop Isolator. If its just when you plug in your cable box, you may have a ground loop issue from your incoming cable connection. I would bet that this is the issue since you don't have the hum otherwise.

Thanks. If this is the problem can I test it by disconnecting the cable from the box and see if the hum goes away? I did try this and the hum stopped.

I will preface this by saying I am not an electrician smile.gif

But based upon your description, it sounds like there may be an issue with your cable and the device should help with your cable box. You could also contact Comcast and have they troubleshoot it over the phone or replace your existing cable box to test.

Well I can't believe I didn't think of a ground loop. Thanks for the reminder. With a little creative cabling (since its not near my TV) I went from the wall through Belkin power unit I use for my system, worked like a charm.

Again, thanks for the reminder.
