Like it is. On the next set i can give my hand at mitering, but adds to time which adds to cost. I honestly don't mind it as i've been wanting to do a translam for a long time now....:-D

Grill boards cutout even though it's about 40 deg outside. tongue.gif 'Bout to workout, then wrap the grills and install magnets!!! I hope you like the styling I did on the grills. cool.gif

Also.....Vincent..... This thing is JUST going to make the shipping Fedex Ground limits. biggrin.gif I have to be crazy careful on the double boxing. I might take the feet off and let you put them back on that's how close this is going to be. biggrin.gif

Dimensions also come into play with items this large.

Yeah, it's dimensions, not weight. I think it weighs about 80 - 90 lbs. It'll be about 165 when it's loaded. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Time to do magnets and done!
Yep, just like we talked about. Totally unique, sexy, and badass all at the same time. Just an awesome job all around.

The magnets are most important, because other wise when I flick my beer caps at the grill, they would no longer stick like they would with the SubM. You have no idea how useful this is with people over. lol

No no. lol Usually the magnets on the inside of the grill hold around 10 bottlecaps when you toss them at the grill. Don't ask how I found this out.

Well...disappointing news. The magnets aren't holding the grills in place. I'm going to shop around for stronger ones. If I can't, I'll have to put more on the cab but I didn't want to ruin the appearance with 8 magnets on each baffle.

Will update asap.

K...found some...ordered. Should be here mid week. If these don't hold...........we'll figure it out. biggrin.gif
post #47 of 112
So close to completion. Totally worth it.
Just had an idea...

The shape of the grill makes it interchangeable. It could technically be used top to middle, or bottom to middle. It should totally be utilized.

Do the magnets require one set to be permanently on the wood? I think it would be cool to pick and choose how to mount the grill at will. I'm debating in my head if it would look ugly to have extra magnets on the top if i wanted to mount it top to bottom.

Issue is that the magnets are recessed in. Meaning I have already bored into the finish. rolleyes.gif That is definitely a SICK idea. We keep thinking of things after the fact. tongue.gif The magnets I ordered are a black chrome color, so would be a bit more hidden. It's your sub, your call. wink.gif

LOL, the whole thing has been made after the fact, but it hasn't failed us yet. Yeah, do it up and add it in the cost. It would definitely be cool.

Joey - are you using neo magnets? I've used both 3/8 and 1/2 inch with tons of holding power.

Are those depth or diameter? I tried with 1/8" thick x 1/2" diameter. Not even close to keeping it up and there isn't much more for me to take off the grill......

I ordered a different brand so hopefully they are much better.
I really think you're simply dealing with polarity issues. The grill on my AVH-15 build uses neo magnets on one side and simply metal disks on the other. Zero problem with it holding. If you can remove the magnets from the grill, try attaching them directly to the ones on the cab first. Then score them with a marker on the visible side, and install them back on the grill with the marked side down.

3/8 and 1/2 was the diameter. Both were/are 0.2" deep/thickness. The 1/2" guys want to take my fingers off when I put the grill on, haha. Double check the polarity, these neo magnets are STRONG. I use 4 magnets per grill/baffle and recess mine into the baffle and paint over them.

I do check the magnets exactly as you say, and then recheck when I put the grill on that everyone snaps to place.

Link me the ones that you use. I just purchased some N52's.

I know they are strong, that is why I don't understand why they aren't holding up the damn grill!! tongue.gif

These are what I just purchased -

I think the thickness has a large part to do with it. I think the ones I am using are too thin. They are maybe 1/16"? Definitely under an 1/8".

I think these new ones will be insane. I hope not too strong. biggrin.gif

Sibuna, where are you in WNY?
