Pioneer SC-61: cannot select DPLII and Neo6 when source is multichannel

Hi there!

I recently got this receiver, so I'm still learning.

It's connected to 7 speakers and a sub, primaryly for DPL IIz (5.1 + 2 front hight, but no surround back). I have no problem with DPL IIz with 2- or multichannel sources. With 2-channel sources I have no problem with all "Standard surround sound" modes (Pro Logic II MOVIE, Pro Logic II MUSIC, Neo:6 CINEMA, Neo:6 MUSIC and some others). But with multi-channel sources I have only DPL IIz, PCM and STEREO - for some reason it doesn't let me select Pro Logic II MOVIE, Pro Logic II MUSIC (both are available with 2-channel sources), Neo:6 and several other modes that are supposed to be available according to the manual. Can you give me an idea what's wrong, please?

P.S. I know that because I do not have surround back speakers, "Pro Logic IIx becomes Pro Logic II (5.1 channel sound)". This is a statement from the manual right before it explains what modes are available with 2- or multi-channel sources, so I understand this applied to both cases (2- or multi-channel sources) - that's what I have with 2-channel sources and that what I expect with multichannel but I just cannot select it: "Standard surround" button loops just 3 options (DPL IIz, PCM and STEREO).

Please help!

PLII is making 5.1 from 2CH as you correctly said, so if you have a 5.1 MCH source already you cannot use it to make 5.1 as it's already there. Doesn't make sense does it?

Thanks for your reply. The manual said I should be able to select "Pro Logic IIx MOVIE", Neo:6 (and some other nodes) when I have multi-channel source. Those modes do sound different and I might want to use one or another, right? For example I want to use Neo:6 with a DVD movie with DD 5.1 - why can't I?

Thank you.

He has a 7.1 set up according to this post. The Movie/Music Modes I believe are only available on 2 channel sources as those modes dictate how information is sent to the center speaker and this. PL2Z which you are using now is perfect for 5.1 sources. DTS Neo:6 makes well a 6.1 (or 7.1 with mono backs) and since you have heights it won't work.

Yes but the 7.1 he has is: 5.1 (in the horizontal plane) + 2 FH, but no surround back

DPLII (without the z) only works for the 5.1 in the horizontal plane, the conventional set-up, that's what I meant.

Likewise for dts neo 6, for 5.1 or 6.1 in the horizontal plane. There is no rears so it doesn't apply.

DPLIIx requires rear speakers, so no rears mean no DPLIIx mode.

As an experiment, take your two FH speakers and put them on the rear and re-configure them as 7.1 in the horizontal plane, you should see these options in the AVR back.

PS. Saw your other thread about DPLIIz, there are already two threads talking about it right here in the AVR with mixed reviews.
