Blu-ray Disc Association, looking for a way to keep the physical disc relevant, announced that it was looking at producing disc with 4K content. We've seen Sony announce 1080P content encoded for 4K up rez. But the association has a lot of hurtles to cross. First, what has to be done to get the disc manufactured?
Three other issues: cost, demand, and backward compatibility. Any one of these three could sink the project.
