Hi all,
I’m caught in HDCP hell. I’m going to try my best to explain it.
Samsung DLP
Pioneer VSX-512-k AVR (1.4 hdmi)
HTPC w/ new Nvidia 630 graphics card (latest 3.10 driver)
Directv H20 (hdmi to avr)
Scenario 1 (audio and video go through avr)
Run hmdi from htpc to avr and hdmi from avr to dlp
Set up nvidia as single monitor (avr+dlp). Control panel reports hdcp compliant. I play a movie. I see and hear the movie. While the movie is still playing, I switch the avr from htpc to directv. Now I’m watching and hearing directv but the nvidia control panel now reports (via remote viewing) that the chain (avr + dlp is not hdcp). I switch back to the htpc and everything has been cut off (hear no audio, see no video). I then switch back to directv and I see and hear that.
Scenario 2 (video directly to dlp and audio through avr):
Run dvi from htpc/630 to dlp and run hdmi from htpc/630 to avr. Setup nvidia as dual monitors – not cloned (dlp and avr+dlp). Once again I play a movie and can see and hear the movie (audio via avr and video dvi directly to dlp) I switch the avr from htpc to directv. Once again, nvidia control panel now reports avr+dlp is not hdcp. I switch back and the dlp (via dvi) is still showing the movie, but there is no audio. If I switch back to directv, it is fine.
I’m trying to understand where the problem lies - htpc/630 or avr or dlp.
I’m thinking the problem is not the avr because I can switch away from directv and then return and there is no problem with hdcp.
I’m thinking the problem is not the dlp because of the same reason.
Therefore I’m thinking the problem must be with the htpc/630 but I’m not sure what to do or if this is just the nature of the beast (I sure hope not).
Any ideas are welcome.
