Dead PLV-Z700 Questions

My Z700 died last night, maybe 1200 hours into its second bulb. Bought it July of 2009 so it's out of the 3 year warranty.

I called support and explained the problem, the guy said it was probably the ballast. I asked what it would cost and he said $130 just to look at it. I asked if the depot repairs it what kind of warranty is there on the repair, he was shocked, didn't know. I asked for the repair center's phone number and he was again shocked, said nobody had ever asked him for that!

Anyway, called them and the part is $92. Not sure I want to replace it though. I put in a claim with Amex since they give me an additional one year warranty, we'll see how that goes.

Regardless of Amex covering the projector or not, I'm considering buying the Pany AE8000, it uses the same 3D glasses as my TC-P65VT30 so that's cool.

Any thoughts on whether I should try to fix this other projector? Would I be setting myself up for failure and wasting the money on parts, not being able to test that part to make sure it's what's really bad?

Thanks for any advice!

That $92 could buy ya an extra pair or two of glasses. Time to upgrade, you'll be glad you did.

I think I agree, probably order the new one later today, if the wife agrees. wink.gif
