Hi all,
I would like to add a sub to my 2.0 system which I use solely for music and would appreciate any recommendations. My room is 12 x 12 x 9 ft. (~1300 cubic ft.) and I'd like to spend less than $800 USD.
Accurate source representation (in terms of transient response and intensity) is my primary focus. Since my room is on the smaller side and since I listen to music at moderate levels, absolute output intensity is not a real concern (to an extent). It seems, from what I have been researching, that in general sealed subs tend to be more accurate than their ported counterparts at the expense of intensity in the lower frequencies (25 Hz and below) and this saddens me. I don't need high absolute intensity at these frequencies but I'd like them to be within the +/-3 dB range.
I'm looking for a sub that would give me the best performance per dollar (again, good performance is defined as high accuracy). While I do believe that sometimes cost can correlate to quality, I'd rather go with the cheaper option if the more expensive does not have substantial benefits. Basically my budget is $800 but I don't have to spend all of it.
Some last thoughts that may or may not help:
1. I'm initially considering an SVS SB12-NSD or Rythmik F12
2. A lot of Rythmik's praise is attributed to its usage of servos. I do think using servos is a great idea however it doesn't automatically translate to accuracy; a good control algorithm is equally if not more important. I'm wondering if Rythmik subs do in reality perform as well as their reputation suggests or if it's all hype due to the sole fact that they use servos.
3. My studio monitors (this system is for entertainment not production) can be cut off at either 80 Hz or 100 Hz
4. I don't want to discount ported subs just yet because I'm not sure of the reason why they are considered less accurate.
Thanks
