Basic projector questions, real noob stuff. Please help!

I need help with the following:

Viewing distance: About 12 feet
Projector distance: Max 12 feet
Screen width: 85 - 100 inches (bigger is better!)

The screen will have to be rolled down from the ceiling (in front of A/V rack and TV), so cannot be curved.

Will the projector distance be too short (too much pincushion), or are there projectors/lenses which will do the job and not cost too much?

Thanks for any help!

Anyone?

Pincushion is an issue for CHI setups that use a 2nd lens for wide screen content. I doubt you are using a special lens but if you are talk to the person who sold it to you for advice on this issue.

Lots of PJ can make a nice size image from 12 feet. Sure to factor the throw distance from the end of the lens to contact with the screen. If you room is 12 feet you don't have 12 throw.

As Kmannth mentioned, several pj's can work for those distances/screens. Also make sure to leave a few inches behind the pj for cabling and heat dispersion. Do you need any with "lens shift", can you tolerate dlp "rainbows", how much ambient light in the room? Any interest in 3D? How much can you spend?

Thanks to both of you for helping out!

I can just about manage 12 feet lens to screen if PJ is mounted on rear wall.
I do not aim for CIH or 3D, just a simple but good setup, and main reason to look at PJs is the fairly small size of TV screens.
The room will not be very bright, PJ will be used mainly in the evenings for movies, and I plan to use a TV for any casual or daytime viewing.
As for lens shift and rainbows, I really don't know what these terms are, I need to study this more.
I don't have any equipment yet, I am just trying to prepare a new apartment for possible install of PJ and screen, and I need to know it is possible, and where to put mounts and cabling.
As for budget, I haven't got a limit as such, but I don't want to spend a huge amount. That's why I posted in the under USD3,000 forum.
Any brands/models you can recommend for me to look at further?
And does screen gain come into this at all? I am probably also going to need an acoustically transparent screen, since it will at least partly cover the system and speakers.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1391476/coderguys-top-projector-picks A good starting place. and he has made an online pj calc that can help with picking screen gain/size, see the link in his signature. Usually one pj will be a little better at one thing, vs another. Pick what you prefer, brighter, deeper blacks, etc. Screen gain will help brightness if your near the limit of the pj's capabilities, to light up a big screen.
