Which Projector to go with Optoma HD33 or the Benq W7000?

Hi All,

I've read all the owner's pages of both projectors and I am still not sure what to go with. The price difference is not significant, but which one is the better projector performance wise? I noticed the contrast ratio is much better on the Benq but the lamp life is 2000 hours vs. Optoma's 3000 hours(which I assume is subjective to the amount of use and the settings on each). I have a 106" screen and the projector will sit 13 ft from the screen ceiling mounted. Any thoughts or suggestions as to which one I should go with would be greatly appreciated, need something to sway me one way or the other. biggrin.gif

Well why these two DLP 3D projectors? There is also the Acer H9500BD if you are good with dynamic blacks is likely the best with blacks. And there is the new BenQ W1070 that is the least expensive and has a promising native contrast.

All 4 perform very well with different strengths. What will you be using it for mostly?
Playing any online/LAN competitive games?

All 4 do decent in lag times but the W1070 may have the edge on them all by 10ms as the HD33,W7000 and H9500BD are around 30ms average input lag and the W1070 may be a shade quicker as a reviewer averaged 20ms input lag with it.

BenQ W7000 and H9500BD have lens shift, though minimal. W1070 has very limited lens shift in one direction, vertical I believe. HD33 has no lens shift as you likely already know.

Thanks for the reply, so basically i'm mostly focused on movies, sports, and i'll fit in some gaming from the PS3 when I can. I've looked at most items and yeah the lens shift is concerning for me. I did some initial reading on the Acer 9500BD and there was some suggestions of hardware issues(i think you will see this with all hardware, no manufacturer is 100% perfect). I just want to make sure making a purchase for my first projector for a room that is 14 x22 is the right choice. Don't want to be dissapointed, but I basically want 1080P, 3D as an option, and picture quality. I read a lot about the Optoma out performing some of the top projectors, but I was not 100% sold on the unit.

another question is I haven't found any retailers in Canada that carry the Acer H9500BD, only amazon.

What about the Sharp XV-Z17000 3D? I have also read amazing things about this one.

Check out consignia.ca they sell refurbs in canada. I've never dealt with them before so I can't speak for their customer service but the prices can't be beat (they did answer the phone if that counts for anything).

I'll definitely consider them when it's time to upgrade.

Anyone else dealt with them here? I was just about to do a forum search.

not a 100% sure on this but I believe the HD33 and W1070 have the higher native contrast. W7000 and H9500BD use a iris to deepen the blacks but native contrast is less. So the HD33 or the W1070 may have more shadow detail, though I have only seen the H9500BD so not sure if true or not. I do have a W1070 in the mail but will not be able to view it for another month yet. Interesting thing with the W1070 is the 3D BluRay 24fps gets done at 144hz and the other 3 do it at 120hz, the W1070 should have less flicker in 3D then the others. That said flicker wasn't a issue for me with the H9500BD.
Far as the H9500BD having hardware issue's, I have yet to read where Acer hasn't taken care of a customer and think the majority of them sold work well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. Not sure who to buy from in Canada for any of these models.
