Monoprice or Sewelldirect

Found another website to use for purchasing home audio or even networking stuff, besides Monoprice.

http://sewelldirect.com

I wish I had found this nice wall plate.

It may be a good source but they really need to put a muzzle on their marketing department. My Bull$hit detector went off when I read this claim about their copper speaker wire.

'Speaker Wire from Sewell offers deeper bass, greater clarity, better imaging, and cleaner highs from your connected loudspeakers'

Thanks for the tip on the site. To be fair, when it comes to cheap cables, I'm still quite content with Monoprice. They overnight ship to me every time with a flat rate that costs less than USPS! Haven't had anything come loose with any of their cables yet, and even if I needed to, I can easily unscrew them and take them apart smile.gif

BS aside....they have some d4m good prices.

I just priced out 4000ft (4 boxes) of CAT6 for my pending HT build and shipped from Sewell is about $200 LESS for the same rated (in wall, 23AWG...) CAT6.

Their shipping is even considerably less. Looks like there is another great source!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS!

What's in your theater that needs 3/4 of a mile of CAT6? eek.gif

Wow! I am going to be ordering lots and lots and lots of cable for the new house I am building and the prices are much better than momnoprice. DUAL RG6 Coax cable is $86 for 1000 feet at sewell and 1000ft feet of SINGLE RG6 is $149 at monoprice! eek.gif

Thanks for the site. I never knew it even existed.

I have had good luck with sewelldirect. I have bought both cat5e and speaker wire from them as well as wall plates and wire fittings. I have been well pleased with all of my purchases from them. I know this is heresy on AVS but I like them far better than monoprice. Just a tip, sewelldirect sells on eBay too and sometimes their prices there are even better than their own website. You do need to be careful on one thing though. They sell both solid copper and copper clad wire. Obviously, the copper clad wire is much cheaper and falsely appears to be the better bargain. Do it right the first time and buy the solid copper wire. It is well worth the little extra money to avoid problems later.

LOL....

I should have been more specific. It's for the whole house + HT.

Well...I simply couldn't understand the large price difference between the two similar products. I contacted Monoprice's tech support hoping they could add some clarity to the price discrepancy, but no such luck. Their first reply was that their product was shielded. I looked again and told him that their websites states it is UTP. He corrected himself after that and aside from the CMR vs. CM rating could not explain the difference.

I looked CLOSER at Sewells product and discovered it was CCA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Copper CLAD aluminum. AHHHH. That would also explain the huge difference in shipping cost too. Discrepancy solved!

CMR is also a riser-rated cable, inherently more expensive due to the burn characteristics (or lack hereof) required to obtain the R rating.

Nice catch on the CCA.. I didn't even know they made copper-clad network cable.

Right, but CMR cable wouldn't cost THAT much more and it's shipping should be the same. That's why I kept scratching my head. I knew Monoprice was a fantastic company with fantastic prices, so I just couldn't wrap my head around the large discrepancy until that discovery (CCA vs. pure copper).

I should have known better too. I've run into that "minor" detail in the past with regards to other cable (RG6...).

Hope others read this thread before clicking "buy" at Sewell.

Agreed... just pointing out you not only get better conductors.. you also get a better jacket. I have never been let down by Monoprice.
