question about lamp module care

getting ready to replace my old lamp in my dlp optoma projector this weekend. my question is i have the new lamp still in the box and haven't opened it yet (got it this week). it seems like i've read that its best to not expose it to light until i'm ready to install it.

this there any truth to this? the lamp is #lmg5162 for an optoma hd20 if that info helps any. thanks!

Not expose a Lamp that makes light as bright as day and produces heat as hot as the sun, to light?.. no, I don't think there is any truth to that statement and actually the first time I have every heard such a suggestion.

I think you don't want to touch it or contaminate it in any way. Sunlight won't hurt it.

The issue is getting your body oils or other contaminates on the actual Lamp element. The reason they suggest vinyl gloves is there is mecury in the lamps. As long as you don't touch the actual inside lamp stem or the arc chamber you should be fine.
