I want to get affordable glasses since I want like 4 pairs and don't want to have to spend $400 just on the glasses.

You can also get the Playstation branded glasses on amazon.com for 19.99. I have a pair and they seem to work fine. I wish the lenses were a bit larger vertically.

I have a 73742 and just got 4 ps3 glasses from best buy. I like them but they desync when i'm off to the side just a little. Not sure if it's the glasses or the set but that's a little annoying.

Might be the set, with an universal emitter I didn't have any problem - how far off to the side?

I agree. Might be the emitter. I can be off center by a few feet and don't get desync. I haven't tried much more than that. Heck I can look down or to the side and it does not desync before I look back and I hear people have trouble with that as well. I too have a universal IR emitter.
