Need help connecting a Passive sub to my Denon AVR-2112CI

I have a built in 6.1 setup at my new house and got the 6 speakers connected to my Denon AVR-2112ci but had no idea how to connect the sub. One set of the zone 2/rear Left back surround speaker plugs is left empty on the receiver. The sub is built into the wall and I wanted to know if its possible to skip getting an external amp. The ends of the wire is white, green, red, and black which I assume mean its a nonpowered sub. Thanks for the help in advance, and I am a total noob at this stuff!!!

No. Get an external sub amp as the AVR is not designed to power the subwoofer.

Ok so external amp is only way? I read online that its possible to connect the sub wires to the front L and R inputs on the receiver and change the speaker configuration to large. Is this an option?

External amp is the best way. A $99 stereo amp/receiver can do the trick.

You would run a subwoofer cable from the Denon to the amp and connect your 4 wires to the speaker terminals on the back of the amp.

And if you do this, where would you connect the actual left and right speakers? If the passive sub was not in the wall and had speaker level outputs you might be able to do it. But since the speaker is in-wall, not really possible. Not the recommended way anyways.

Yes. The power to power the subwoofer's speaker driver has to come from some place and it isn't going to come from the AVR's sub outs, or the passive sub itself.

If you have an AVR with some spare back channels you'd have some power amps to reassign, but you would probably still be skunked because those spare channels are usually switched internally in very specific ways. This feature would make more sense than the current biamp wierdness.

Now, if you have an AVR with spare back channels and the AVR had preamp out/amp in terminals, you might be able to run a jumper from the pre amp out for the subwoofer to the unused back channel input(s) of those spare channels.

You might want to read your user's guide very carefully to be sure...
