Help me with a sort of challenging situation....

Hey guys, new here and thought I would ask for some advice.

I have a 30x40 building that I use as an office. Half of this building is a large open room with 15' ceilings and part of that open room is a sitting area with a TV, etc... Typical living room setup.

Anyway, I would like to put a nice sounding 3.1 system in. As it stands, I have a nice LED tv and a powered Yamaha sub that is probably 20 years old at this point, but I still love it - sentimental value I guess.

Anyway, what would you guys suggest for an amp as well as a nice front stage - a left, right, and center? I might go to a 5.1 later, but want to focus on the front stage first.

Lets figure a budget of about $800.

Thanks so much in advance,

Ryan

Welcome to the Forum. smile.gif Fwiw, that seems like a large area for the Yamaha Sub and when you put on top of that you are looking for 3 bookshelf/monitor speakers for around $800 it may be difficult to do...That said, To stay close to your budget/specifications you may want to check the used market for your best bang-for-your-buck.

One recommendation would be to look for used Klipsch Heresy speakers which I believe you could find within budget, but still think you would want to upgrade your sub to cover the low end. Good luck. {Edit: Btw, those are effecient speakers so you could get away with a lower end AVR and still have the volume you want.}

I would recommend that you get a Hamon-Kardon AVR 1700 first; that should be around $350.

To stay within that budget, I would suggest a pair of Polk R300 or Monitor 40 or Tsi200 speakers and a Polk CS20.
