well the tv out on the receiver goes to tv and then a ps3 and cable tv box is on the 1st 2nd HDMI inputs on the receiver. when connect a external hd to the usb on the TV, i have to play them thru the Samsung Media Center. so i why i dont get audio thru receiver if the is hooked up the HDMI Out on the receiver.

thanks for the help

I simply just connected an optical cable from the TV audio out to the receiver. It's located in AV1 on my Yamaha.

So when I stick a USB stick in the TV and choose a movie or whatever to watch I just have to click over to AV1 on the receiver to hear audio.

this is the response i got in another thread. I just ordered http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LSNF04/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 and im gonna try that.
