Best Soundbar for under $1000?

I strongly suggest waiting for the already announce Vizios, some of which have wireless, actual rear surrounds for real 5.1. They are apparently great sounding soundbars at an affordable pricepoint, well below your budget.

The somewhat pricier (though still in your budget) top of the line Philips Fidelio...also with wireless rears, looks promising as well.

If you're interested in Surround, I don't believe any soundbar can achieve with emulation or beaming what a soundbar with real rear speakers provides.

The Yamaha 2200 is a wicked sound bar that just slides in under 1000, although you can get it on sale for 599-799 - you wont regret it. I have not listened to the other sound bars referred to here, but I can tell you that I am very impressed with the sound I am getting, especially compared to the TV speakers, which I thought were OK until I connected the sound bar. HUGE difference!
