need advice on a 5.1 set up with a 2500 budget

That Klipsch sub is a waste of time. Get a 12" sub from SVS Sound, Outlaw Audio, Rythmik, or HSU Research. Those Internet direct vendors are the best subs for price/performance.

I vote for the Ascends. I don't like the Klipsch horn sound. It's a little fatiguing to me when cranked up.

I got a HSU VTF-15H sub and it is amazing! On the speakers I just got Definitive Technology BP8060-ST towers, CS8040 Center channel, and SR8040 surrounds. Retail is 3,000 but there was a deal where you could get it all for 2,000. Nice setup! Not sure if the deal is still valid. Joe who works for definitive is on the Definitive forum every few days. The towers have built in subs so you don't have too have a separate. They don't do 20hz like advertised but before my hsu sub came in I was playing around and they can get it a bit. I like bass, deep and accurate so I got the HSU and run it up to 70hz, the tower subs act as midbass woofers from 70hz-170ish. It's all not necessary though. You could get the DT studio monitor 65's and one of these internet direct company subs and would be happy. I listened to Klipsch rf-62's and didn't like them. But everybody is different. They key is do you like it.

I can vouch for the E5Ti towers as I bought 2 sets for my sister a year + ago. They have broken in wonderfully and I am extremely impressed with the quality of the build itself along with the sound. I personally would say do not hesitate and get them NOW!

The look at 12" ported subs from SVS Sound, HSU Research, and Outlaw Audio. Depending on the size of your room, you might need the bigger ones that they offer.

Spend more than 500 for a sub. Check out Power Sound Audio and Hsu for subs. Hsu also has good speakers, check out a speaker/sub package from them. I would go for bookshelf speakers over tower speakers when you have a good subwwofer. The big advantage that tower speakers have over bookshelf speakers is deeper bass extension, but a subwoofer will cover that range of bass anyway so the tower speaker's advantage is negated. On a $2500 budget, I would spend 600 or 700 on the receiver, 800 to 1k on a sub and the rest on speakers. Don't spend a whole lot on the surround speakers, they aren't nearly as important as your front stage speakers.

He has a Denon 3313 already.

SVS have a new pair of subs that are $500/ea, the PB-1000 a ported 10" sub and the SB-1000 a sealed 12" sub(the size is only 13x13x13). Not too sure of the differences between sealed and ported as I have only heard ported subs.

Second Smasher50's recommendations in post#2 above...........the Ascends should create a great soundstage for that size room, and the SVS ported 12inch sub will cover the low end quite well......

Have you heard the Klipsch. They are great if you like the sound. From my research this personally was the setup I was planning on going with. Exactly the setup minus the sub which was probably HSU or maybe SVS.

However...I went and listend to the Klipsch ..multiple times. The first time I heard them...I really thought someone turned the trebble up to high... I also noticed subtle mid-tones were muddled some.

I went back and listened two more times. I really just don't care fore the Klipsch sound.

I then listened to the PSB. I thought the PSB sounded much more natural, but the sound stage was not very "thin" and not encompassing to me. The center channel looked like a midget after thought.

I am still searching but have eliminated Klipsch from my search at this point.

The Definitive Technology BP8060ST/CS8040/SR8040 5.x combo is an excellent deal if you can still get them for $2000. For a 14x12 room, you might even find that the built-in powered subs in each tower will be enough without adding a stand-alone sub. I have the DefTech BP7000SC in a 16x15 room and the subs in them are running at about 40% of what they can deliver but THOSE have a 14" 1800 watt powered sub in each tower. Any more than that and the low end drowns out the rest of the speaker's range. The BP8060ST have a 300 watt powered sub in each tower.

As others have said, I'd listen to the Klipsch before actually buying them. BestBuy Magnolia should have them set up. I second, third, whatever on an HSU or SVS sub, IF you are sticking with Klipsch.

How about an NHT Classic 3 5.1 package as yet another option.

Recommendations are nice to collect a list of speakers to want to audition all of the above but only you can decide upon hearing them yourself
Bring cd's you like with you then your journey to audio bliss shall commence.
The speaker that creates am emotional connection and you don't want to listen to others so quickly should help you to decide.

I also like axiomaudio subs mail order many models delivered to your door with a 30 day trial too.

Mind you subs do take the longest to break in at times.
