Can light depth

I'm building soffit around my ductwork that will be directly above my bar top. I want to put recessed lighting in the soffit but am not sure how far I need to build it down to have enough room to fit the cans between the sheet rock and the ductwork. Anyone have any idea?

There are about a billion kinds of recessed lights. You need to figure out what you want to buy before you plan your soffit. They range form a couple of inches to 8" or more. More head room is better but smaller is not always the least expensive.
Just do a google "Recessed lighting depth" or "Recessed lighting types", then start reading lots of info and things you need to know before you start building.

There are also LED 'Can' lights that are virtually surface mounted.
