Do Bluray players differ in video/audio quality? I know some players have different decoding, but is there much of an incentive for me to upgrade?

I have a Panasonic DMP-BD60 and was looking at a Pioneer Elite BDP-52.

Sorry for the noob question..

It's often asked. A problem is that, unlike the DVD player days, there is very little published lab testing of players just to ensure that they are doing the basic things correctly.

However, the consensus here is that for Blu-ray video and digital audio (as with HDMI) all players are going to produce very similar A/V quality.

Just buy it anyway! You can put the old one in another room.

The main incentives for newer blu-ray players such as the Oppo line is the ability to have two hdmi ins and outs to take advantage of its video processing on other devices. Also the MHL out on the HDMI is a useful feature if you have a compatible smartphone
