Malfunctions to look out for?

FedEx delivered my Polk New Monitor 65Ts today. One of the boxes was fine, the other arrived like this-

FedEx dropped them off without a signature so I couldn't refuse to accept the shipment and have them send it back to NewEgg. I haven't opened the box yet but from shining a flashlight through the hole there doesn't appear to be any cosmetic damage so I think for now I'm going to keep it.

Is there anything in particular I should watch, or rather listen, for when I get this thing up and running? And tell tale signs of impact damage in a speaker or anything?

Probably seems like a bit of a silly question but this is my first set of speakers and I'm on a budget so I want to make sure what I've purchased is operating at maximum efficiency.

Thanks for any help you can offer. This forum has offered a plethora of information and it's certainly appreciated.

The way they ship speakers without an outer box really infuriates me. I just purchased the 75T's myself and it was the same.

It should be fine. Of course, check for exterior damage first, and then hook them up and see if they sound okay. Make sure all the woofers are working, tweeter, no popping or something. These things aren't that fragile, but you want to make sure.

Yeah, I honestly couldn't believe the packaging when I got it.

I'll be connecting them to a Pioneer VSX-1122-K receiver.

Do you know if, other than just playing a song or a movie, if receivers have a test option or something to test the tweeter, each of the three drivers and the woofers individuality or something to make sure everything within the speaker is working on an individual basis?

Anybody know of a test feature or is playing a movie or music just the best option?

You could try running test sweeps if you have software like REW. If you don't have REW but still have a computer attached to your system you could head online to someplace like audiocheck.net to generate test tones. Failing that, you can download and burn a CD of test tones. In any case, you're looking to make sure that your speakers give the same pure, clean sound over their entire range.

So last night I accidentally hooked my 2 floorstanders to my receiver without the metal bracket picture here. The sound came out only through the upper half of the speakers and was extremely weak and airy. I only played them like this for maybe two minutes.

I then reconnected the speakers with the pictured metal bracket in place and they sounded full and fine. There was/is no potential of damaging the speakers by hooking them up to the receiver and playing them for only a few moments without that bracket, correct?
