Audio from TV to Receiver?

I currently have a Samsung smart TV connected to my Yamaha RX-A710 receiver by an HDMI cable. I was watching a movie using the Amazon Video app on the TV, and couldn't put up with the sound of the TV Speakers (They're fine for regular TV, but when you watch a movie, they vibrate the entire case of the TV and sound terrible... but that's another story).

Is there a way to have the TV output sound into the receiver using the one HDMI cable, or do I need to purchase (and run...), an Optical cable to get the audio???

Thanks for any help!

What model is your Samsung? It should have ARC (Audio Return Channel) and the Yamaha is compatible as well.

Read up on it, there should be an option to enable it so you can get sound through the Yamaha instead of the TV.

It's an E7000 plasma. I've been playing with it for 45 minutes now. I guess I don't have the know-how to make it work!

Set the Anynet+ on the TV to ON as well as audio to "external speakers". Set the HDMI Control setting on the 710 to ON.
