Are 3D panels better for 2D content?

I just saw the LG LM7600 at a friend's house, and I was very impressed with the PQ.

I have limited depth perception from birth. I'm pretty well compensated for most activities, including sports (except batting) and driving, but a few things bring the defect out, one of which is trying to watch 3D content with glasses (I see double, and in two colors).

So, a 3D set for 3D content is not for me.

My question is, are the 3D panels better at displaying 2D content? If not, is there an equivalent 2D model to the LM7600 that would look as good to me?

Thanks for any input.

I have this same tv. I really didn't want a 3d set. I have yet to watch anything in 3d except the sample content that comes with the set. But from everything I read, the video hardware LG used was better in this set then an equivalent 2d set. Now, does that mean the panel is better? I don't believe so. I think it has better video processors. But I must say I am totally blown away by this tv's picture. Very, very nice. And the non-active 3d is much much better than I expected.

AFAIK Passive 3D LCD sets have poorer 2D then 3D maybe they are better this year.
Some 3D glasses have the ability to turn off the left or right lens so you that you can only see a 2D image.
