Big discrepancy between the U.K. price of $6200 vs. Value Electronics in the States at $3700. Somethings askew... tongue.gif
post #33 of 1202
It's more simple 1£=1euro=1 dollar...4000 $ or more for 60"

When did the UK switch to the Euro? One £ =$1.55 so £4000 is $6216

To be more accurate, price is now $3949, but the discrepancy is still striking.

Maybe the British have to pay extra for the gold plated plaque and a booklet signed by the lead engineer.

sorry delasalle i edit my post...it's a market thing... no way 60" ZT60 will cost $ 6200 not even 65" version.

No need to apologize. I just hope that you are right. My beloved XBR8 is in its death throes and was looking at a VT65 until I heard about the ZT 60

I don't know. (M)SRPs have a way of creeping up as we get closer to release date and pre-orders start coming in.

Maybe if everybody shuts up and stops posting in these anticipation threads... smile.gif

The ZT is in Best Buy's system. $4099.99 for the 65" and $3499.99 for the 60". If the IQ matches the hype this is a slam dunk.

That means the 65ZT60 should be $3200 (or even lower) somewhere by the fall. smile.gif

I see, thank you.

Not so sure about that. I thought Panasonic was only producing a specific (20,000) number of the ZT60 panels. If that indeed is true, falling prices simply may not happen on the ZT series?? For all we know, there may not be any ZT60's left come Fall!

David, I see you asked AVJ at 'that other site' about this. I saw his reply and your $3,200.00 may certainly be doable. I stand corrected.

I thought that that was only for Europe.

See my above post/edit...I misspoke. Sorry about that.

I am excited to se one of these units in the wild. I watched the AVforum youtube videos and this display sounds like it may finally be a reference display to replace my 50" pioneer. I was curious if anyone had further information on the built in tuners on this unit- from the AVforum review it sounds like there are 2 OTA turners built in and you can add a storage drive and create your own DVR. Does that mean I can drop the TIVO and just use the Panasonic set up?

No worries! It gets confusing here and on the other forum with all of the info from 2 continents getting intermingled.
I had heard the 20,000 number as well, and am greatly relieved to learn its for the blokes across the pond smile.gif

It is a not quite the same tv as the one being offered in the States. For one it has 4 Tuners" (2 + 2) for recording purposes (refer to the UK spec sheet)...even so....its quite a markup. Perhaps a duty payment is pushing this higher ?
Wow, I'd like access to the euro one. I would very much like to have 4 tuners too. biggrin.gif The wait for this TV is excruciating.

Possible, all depends on supply and demand.

It seems they are going to control quantity and price matching by selecting very few outlets for the ZT. In addition, BB has published a list of retailers they will price match. No more matching Buytvnigeria, 55GT50, $999, prepaid cash, I don't think. smile.gif
post #53 of 1202
where are you seeing these prices? I can't find it online at BB or at value electronics

I don't see it on BB either and a manager I spoke to a few days ago knew nothing about pricing. The Value Electronics site is here.
The ZT, VT, and ST60 ae already in BB's inventory system.

So far it lists MSRP on the 65" ZT at 4,099.98 and 3,499.98 for the 60". If those prices stick by release, they really aren't too bad. Definitely less than i was expecting for the (supposed) level of performance these are going to deliver.

Really though?...how will this be worth more than twice the price of a 60" ST? I'm guessing it may be similar to last year where the VT was only worth the extra money for those few super picky people and it didn't seperate itself all that much from the value models below it...we will see i guess
post #57 of 1202
According to what we've been reading, the ST/VT60 are based off of 2012's panels, so they should provide similar performance to the current ST/GT/VT 50. They are attempting to set the ZT apart from the rest of the line by claiming it's using a new panel and going after the enthusiast market, clear from the UK demonstration of it aside the Pioneer KRP-600. I am sure that it will provide tangible performance differences compared to the 2013 ST and VT, and for the people who purchase it, the difference will be worth it -- $4100 is expensive, but it's not priced out of the stratosphere (read: Elite territory) for a high-end TV, especially when considering that discounts are sure to apply during the ZT60's life cycle. Panasonic is trying to prevent their product lines from cannibalizing one another this year by having fewer of them with more distinction between them. I think the real challenger will be the Samsung F8500 -- which starts out with an MSRP something like $500-$600 below the ZT for the 64" model.

It's not "worth it". Neither is an AMG Mercedes or a BMW M series. Fortunately, some people have the money and want the best. They don't do a math equation and say, "this isn't worth twice the price". They say, "I want the best and will pay twice the price to get it."

You should be happy. That system -- called capitalism -- doesn't always work to spread the wealth around. In the case of "overpriced" luxury goods it actually works really well.

I'm always happy to see somebody spend $7k+ on a TV, because that will eventually trickle down to me.

The guy who spends 70k, well, the benefits to me is rather abstract, like the moon's effect on my non werewolf body.
