Ha.... you can sort of count me as one of them, since I have the 70" Elite too. I have a 65HX950 on hold in case this ZT60 thing doesn't work out for me. The only diff is that I am not yet a former Kuro owner.

And another review hinting towards the ZT probably going to do pretty well in US tests. The VT getting best picture quality of any TV Cnet has reviewed.

Panasonic TC-PVT60 series review:
This plasma picture finally challenges Kuro

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-tc-p55vt60/4505-6482_7-35567332.html#

The good: The Panasonic VT60 produces the best picture quality of any TV we've ever reviewed, equal to or better than our in-house Pioneer Kuro reference; exceedingly deep black levels and excellent shadow detail; well-saturated colors and excellent skin tones; industry-leading sound quality; extensive features including touch-pad remote, voice control, and onboard camera.

The bad: Extremely expensive; forthcoming ZT60 might have even better picture quality; worse bright-room picture than that of the Samsung F8500; somewhat humdrum design; camera is limited, and facial recognition is a gimmick.

The bottom line: The Panasonic VT60 has one of the best pictures of any TV we've ever reviewed, but it's soon to face some tough competition.

the Panasonic VT60 is probably the best-performing TV we've ever seen.

Does anyone know if the ZT uses the same fan stock as the VT ? Prob only one with a ZT is a dealer wink wink .. I wish I had one to look behind it to look at the fans .. I would order a replacement 65"VT60 but it would be heart breaking to run slides another 100 hrs just to have same noise over again .. Who would have thought a $$$ TV would be undone by a 2 buck part

According to the Design Center in Dallas, they will have 16 ZTs mid May

Hello All

Had a BAD DAY and decided to go driving around and stopped at my Local Best Buy Magnolia store.
I have a friend there and we both Love AV.. I was in industry at one time .
Anyway ...
GUESS WHAT THEY HAD ???!!!

The Pana VT 60 AND THE Sony 65 inch 4 k 900A

Needless to say I had FUN.

Sony .Very nice no banding kinda like a super XBR950... Off angle was pretty good too less problems than Ive seen on other edge lit lcds . Triluminous tech made nice colors
AND I even liked the speakers... Saw it with Avatar on BD upconverted was impressive and Native 4 K on Sony server WOW... What detail.

This is a plasma Discussion and the VT 60 was there ....WOW what shadow detail ....
VERY VERY impressive..... Trouble is NOW iI want one of each hee hee..
My friend told me the ZT60's will be in short supply...
He told me if they get one in he will let me know so I can see it..
But the VT60 was impressive VERY deep blacks with loads of detail. Its a great time to be an AV buff...

Has it been confirmed that 30,000 ZT60 units will be manufactured world wide?

Also, for those of you planning to buy a ZT60, do you expect to pay full MSRP?

The answer to the 1st question is that not the correct number......

The answer to the 2nd question should be, youll be paying much closer to MSRP if not MSRP for this set for awhile IMO.........

I probably won't be buying mine until Late September. I also probably won't be buying one at all unless I can get it well below MSRP. If it sells only at list, I'll wait for next year and get a 4K OLED TV (which I Have no doubt will be much more expensive but by then should have HDMI 2.0 so it will be a long term investment).

^Assuming there will even be a 4K available to buy next year.

Oh, I should have been clear - it won't have to be a Panasonic set so I'm pretty sure there will be. I could be wrong but I got to have my dreams smile.gif

Ok, does anyone have a reliable figure for worldwide ZT60 units expected to ship?

Getting sick of Best Buy "associates" trying to scare me into placing a pre-order, which I wouldn't do even if I'm "stuck" with a VT50 for another year. These guys typically claim to know so much, but the more I learn the more I realize how full of it they are.

I have seen from a "few" reliable sources (the insider over at HDJ and Speakerphille here) that if you want one on release day you shouldnt have an issue getting one. There have been no reliable numbers released, the "limited" may effect getting the set later in the year, but with the price of this set I think you shouldnt have that hard of a time finding one, just a little mroe difficult than when they 1st come out. I wouldnt worry about a pre order, but thats me based on what Ive seen the "sources" on the forums say.

Go to a stand alone Magnolia -- put 10% down and cancel if you change your mind. No drama.

First off lets wait and see how the ZT60 stacks up Against the VT60, after all there is only a $500 difference between the 2 sets (ZT60 $3499) and (VT60 $2999). We already know that the VT60 has the BEST black levels of any plasma yet, and yes I have seen the VT60 in person as it was sitting right next to the Samsung F8500 in my local MHT store and yes you could tell the difference in the picture quality between the 2 set's showing the same video feed.

I expect that when the ZT60 does hit the store shelves that it will push the price of the VT60 down another $500 to around $2499, and I don't see the ZT60 dropping much (Outside of maybe a 4th of July sale) till the Fall when prices usually drop for the holidays.

As for product run? IDK, but I am excited to see what the ZT can do, but it will really have to out perform the VT60 to get me to drop an extra $1000+, other wise the VT60 will do me just fine.

Quick note: If the VT60 price doesn't drop after the ZT release then it's a no brainer, it's the ZT for an extra $500

I really dont see a price drop, but thats JMOHO.....seeing what has been said elsewhere the prices will probably stick. They should ahve actually increased the price of the ZT to further drive home the "limited" or "exclusiveness" IMO. The performance between the VT and ZT will most likely be very close as we have already seen in the early EU reviews....Well find out more toorrow and Saturday though smile.gif
post #955 of 1309
I'm glad it's not priced higher, as that exclusiveness isn't a selling point to me (or for most of the TV-buying public, I would wager). It's probably at a premium that is just right for the improvements in PQ it should theoretically provide.

Yes, I am interested in seeing the difference myself. It might just be we at the shootout will say we see no difference despite what the data says. Oh and the price difference is already at $1,000 between the VT and ZT, seeing as right now you can only preorder the ZT60 at MSRP at MHT, but the VT is already going for a $400 - $500 discount.

See our sponser's website. There are some borderline stores offering discounts also. Hell even MHT/BB told me they could give me a discount on a VT.

Play the "Joe Kane on 4K" interview on the AVS home page. According to Joe, the only way to get 4k through HDMI 2.0 will be by using four HDMI input cables for one signal. If you are ever planning to shop for a 4K display he recommend only those displays with a different interconnect, the name of which escapes me at the moment. I think it's the one Apple has been using for a while.
