I've got a fairly restrictive living room setup, with a 42" Hitachi TV (2010 model) that fits nice and snug in the corner next to the fireplace at a slight angle for better viewing.
Here is the layout:

I know I open more possibilities by mounting the TV above the fireplace, but it's just too high for my personal preference.
For an LCD, this TV produces pretty reasonable sound. You can see it has a pretty thick bezel below the screen which houses the two front facing speakers (not your typical tiny down or rear-facing speakers). I tried out the Yamaha YAS-101 soundbar, and while I was very happy with the sound, I am returning it because it's blocking the IR remote receiver on my TV and the IR repeater on the soundbar can't reach the location of the IR receiver on the TV, so I need to try something different, preferabbly a compact speaker/subwoofer set up.
I know my options are limited based on my room layout, but would like to hear any suggestions for any potential sound improvements I can implement.
Thanks in advance for any help.
