Hey hey all, I'm extremely new to this, but I've been reading threads for a while and finally decided to join.
I'm hoping I can get some feedback on my potential setup before jumping in. I currently have a home theater in a box setup from almost a decade ago with about 60w Yamaha speakers and no subwoofer (ouch, I know). This is in a living room with an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings that leads into the dining room, kitchen, up to the 2nd floor stairwell and one of the upstairs rooms which opens out on this area (kind of like a loft). All in all, I'd say about 1,000sq/ft are in this open area, but the viewing area for the system will only be immediately in front to about 12ft out. This setup is almost entirely used for TV/movies.
I'm looking to get a subwoofer and replace my existing left, right and center speakers for under 2k.
Currently have and keeping:
Receiver: Sony STR-DN1000 ( http://store.sony.com/p/STR-DN1000/en/p/STRDN1000 ). It looks like it's capable of powering 7 110w speakers, so I've been looking at ones with a slightly higher sustained output than that (so I could potentially upgrade the receiver later).
TV: Samsung 55" ( http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/LN55C750R2FXZA ) - no audio going through here, but just for reference.
Currently considering:
Subwoofer: BIC PL-200 Acoustech Platinum Series Subwoofer (328)

From what I've read it helps to get left, right and center from the same line, which is where these come in, so hoping to grab all three from the same line at once right now. This comes out to about $1500, so there's a little room for some improvements. Maybe go up a level in the subwoofer?
Questions:
1) Any thoughts on these speakers for the price?
2) I still haven't made up my mind when it comes to floor vs bookshelf speakers. I'm thinking that for the size of the room, having floor speakers will help the overall depth of sound given a speaker that can add a bit more bass to the mix. For a room of this size, given the receiver, any recommendations on floor vs bookshelf?
3) Given that my current receiver has a max output of 110w/speaker, should I seriously think about moving up a level of speakers to make sure all of them have a power handling of at least 110 to get best sound and best future proofing? Or am I looking into maxing out the wrong things?
4) Any other recommendations, tips or articles I can read to help better inform me on choosing the right speakers are always welcome. Like I mentioned, I'm very new to this, so there's a whole lot I don't know.
