How do I run two left and two right speakers with a passive sub?

I'm setting up a budget system where I need a set of speakers off the same receiver outputs in two different rooms. The receiver is rated for 8-16ohm and the speakers and passive sub I have are all 8ohm. I know typically I can run two speakers in series to get 16ohms but I'd like to incorporate the passive subwoofer in there somehow. I hooked it up like in the diagram below and it seems to work but I don't know if this is safe or if it'll burn something up. I think the sub is normally in series with the single speaker to make 16ohms? So now I'm at 24ohms?

Sounds like a bad idea to me. I know there are devices that allow you to switch from speaker set to speaker set!

Yeah, I know they make switches. I need all the speakers to be on at once, though.

What receiver do you have?
