Looking for help selecting antenna. Plano, Texas

Hello all,

I'm getting rid of Verizon cable. I bought a Roku HD box, and want to get my local channels as well. I know very little about this business, but can see there is a plethora of issues to consider. My TVfool, linked below, looks pretty simple; all of my stations appear to be in one specific place. I'm not sure if that's a good thing. I would prefer to have an indoor antenna, but am willing to put one in the attic, at bout 12', or the roof, at about 18'. I have a budget of about 100, to 150 at most. I have a low end Olevia HDTV, and may upgrade soon. I would appreciate any help in selecting an antenna for my house. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks, John

Outdoor antennas are an eyesore indoors. But outside, they tend to offer much more bang for the buck. If placing the antenna on the roof forces it to look through nearby trees, it may not be worth getting on a ladder. I'd try without the ladder first. If the roof offers a clear view to the towers, and you confident about safety, then the roof is the best choice. Good Luck.

I live a little bit east of you and am considering this one to replace my current Channel Master that's in my attic and doesn't receive UHF channels: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882125349 My goal as well is to drop Verizon eventually. The RCA ANT3036 has a boom length of 110" so that could be an issue for you.

(Edit: Sorry, this was apparently discussed elsewhere)

You should not need anything big, certainly for less of a price than what your limit is You have line of sight to the towers.

Try the HBU-33 from radio Shack in the attic and see what you get:

Point the antenna to the SW. In the pic above for the HBU-33, the right side is the front of the antenna which should point to the SW.

If you can't get reliable reception in the attic, you may have to put it outside.
