Hi, first post here, but longtime lurker!
With my budget, I would find it hard to set up any semblance of a 2.1 or 3.1 system right now (on a student budget!). I have a 60 inch plasma that I need to upgrade the audio on desperately (read: I need something external). I was debating between finding a really cheap 2.1 or 3.1 system (a refurb or very cheap AVR, and cheap bookshelf speakers & monoprice sub), getting a 5.1 HTIB (GF refuses to let me have rear speakers though), or a soundbar.
The most I could spend would be around $350, which is why it is hard to find something to make a 2.1 or 3.1 setup. My room is around 16' by 18' and I'm really just looking for a noticeable upgrade in sound as compared to my TV speakers.
Are there any suggestions on which route I should go?
