Audio Feedback Problem

Equipment
Receiver: Yamaha Natural Sound AV Receiver RX-V567
Satellite Box: DirecTV HD-DVR
Computer: Dell Optiplex 790

Issue
I am experiencing audio feedback through my speakers when I am using my Dell Optiplex computer through my receiver. It is connected to the receiver via a RCA-to-3.5mm cable. Also connected to the receiver is my DirecTV HD-DVR satellite box. It is connected to the receiver via HDMI.

It is the connection between the DirecTV box and the receiver via HDM that is causing the feedback problem when I am using my computer. When the input is selected on the computer, the audio feedback is instantly heard. As soon as I unplug the HDMI cable from the receiver, the feedback goes away. As soon as the HDMI cable gets plugged back in, the feedback returns. I have tried other ports for the connections, but the feedback continues. I've also switched out the HDMI cable, and I still get the feedback.

Does anyone know why when the computer input is selected that it would get feedback because of the connection of another device? I don't get any feedback when the DirecTV is selected as the input, only when computer is selected.

Is there a microphone or webcam attached to the computer?

Probably a ground loop, and he's referring to hum as 'feedback'.

There is no microphone. The computer is also connected to a Sony Bravia HDTV and a Creative webcam, which does have a built-in microphone.

I'm not sure if it's feedback, that was just my best guess. There is a humming noise, but again, I don't know if that's classified as feedback.

Humming noises are called hum or humming noises.

Whoda thunk? ;-)

Definitely not feedback!

You no doubt have a ground loop. Easiest fix is a Ground Loop Isolator - less than $20 at Radio Shack or any number of places on the web.
