Bangor, ME: ANT751R and low VHF

I purchased and installed a RCA ANT751R and have no issues getting my local channels except for VHF channel 2. I thought I read that the 751 didn't do a great job with low VHF. I am able to get VHF 5 & 7 w/o issues.

You didn't say whether the antenna is installed outdoors or in an attic....which may be
attenuating VHF signals more than UHF....outdoors is best....

I found RCA ANT-751 (aka EZHD) to be very difficult to model, esp the SWR....but from
what I see in the simplified VHF only modelling, it provides 2-3 dBi Gain on Ch2-6 with
only a bit more Gain in the Forward direction as toward Reverse. However, SWR is
climbing to ever more excessive levels the lower in frequency you go.....so adding first
6-ft, then 10-ft of extra cable length MIGHT help Ch2 reception...or NOT as the location
of the SWR Null is hopefully moved from being on the END of the coax....

If you have to receive Ch2, you might want to try a Combo antenna with better Ch2 Gain,
which unfortunately are rather HUGE. Alternatively, you might want to consider adding
a Ch2-6 Antenna, such as Antennacraft Y-5-2-6, with a HLSJ Lo-VHF/Hi-VHF+UHF
Combiner: http://www.antennacraft.com/pdfs/Y5-2-6.pdf

If you're in a DIY mood and have the VERTICAL space for them, you might consider
one of nikiml's Ch2-13 GHn Grey-Hoverman Antennas with a UVSJ UHF/VHF Combiner:

Bangor is the ONLY market in the country where a channel 2-13 antenna is all that's needed. Don't have to have UHF at all.

TVFool also lists Ch22 and Ch25 (both in UHF Band)...and Analog Ch30, Ch31 and maybe Ch33.
It's up to the user to determine whether they want to receive these independent channels....

Channels 22 and 25 are translators for other stations readily available to a VHF antenna.

As for the analogs, I'd be curious as to if he is able to pick them up with the ANT751R and what programming might be airing on them. Wikipedia articles indicate that they're mostly religious programming. Trip's site indicates that WBGR-LP is RTV-affiliated although it is analog-only with no application at the FCC to convert to digital.

Are you able to get Fox? Is there a repeater station for it?

Antenna is installed outside mounted around 6' off the ground. I am able to get channel 22 but the signal is weak. Channel 7's sub channel 7.2 is a rebroadcast of 22.1 and in turn channels 22 sub channel 22.2 is a rebroadcast of 7.1. I haven't checked the analog channels, but they aren't important to me.

You only entered your zip code for tvfool. Youi need to enter your exact address ( it will not be shown when you post results), and also plug in 20 ft for the height and see if the results get better.

Perhaps switching to an antenna designed for VHF-low and VHF-high only (channels 2-13) might receive all of your VHF real channels 2, 7, 9 and 13 well. Wasn't sure if the smaller CS600 would have enough gain for the two 41-mile stations (real channels 9 and 13), but if the RCA ANT751R receives them just fine, then maybe the CS600 would as well (especially if you could mount it a bit higher than 6 feet off the ground). At least it's inexpensive to try. Otherwise, the HD-5030 would almost certainly do the job, but it's a much bigger antenna. Couldn't find any medium-sized VHF low/high antennas (sized in-between the CS600 and HD-5030), probably because there's not much demand for that particular design these days.
