Clueless on amps/receivers for first setup...

Hey guys,

I'm trying to put together my first audio system. I'll primarily be using it in a dorm/apartment living area, but I really have no idea what makes a good amp/receiver. I don't plan on anything bigger than a 2.1 setup, TV, iPod, etc.

I'm more than willing to use Craigslist, but there are so many listings that it seems somewhat overwhelming. I'm in the Boston/Cambridge, MA area by the way.

My budget is close to $200 for amp/receiver and speakers, neither of which I have. Hopefully I'll be able to snag some used Polk bookshelf speakers if I'm diligent. I just don't know what I should be looking out in regards to amp/receiver. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

200 for speakers and an amp really limit you, but I'd go with this http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENAVR1312/DENON-AVR-1312-5.1-Channel-A/V-Home-Theater-Receiver/1.html and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290269 gonna put you a bit above 200 but will give above average sound.
