My screen is 120" 16:9 and the projector is shelf mounted upside down near the ceiling. The 9 inch rule is probably pretty close but if all possible on a permanent screen, get the projector settled first, then hang the screen. I did it the other way around and I paid dearly for it!

Any one upgraded from a H20 to a HD25 or HD25e? If so how much better is the picture and the black levels? Thanks
post #363 of 551
Hd20 to HD25. Really big upgrade, specially in black level even without the 'Dynamic Black' enabled. But note it's the 25 which was quickly replaced with the 25e, which has at very least a different lamp. I imagine it's a collector's item now!
But if the 25e is comparable then you won't be disappointed.

I have a hd25e coming next week for free thank you best buy service plan.. I will report back on the image quality difrence. Can't wait for the extra light out put on my 120 inch screen.

Thought I would share my early experience with the Optoma HD25e.

We are using the HD25e in a totally light controlled room. Lamp Mode = Eco.

We replaced a Panasonic PT-AE700U with the HD25e two weeks ago.
I am prone to rainbow effect with DLP's and I see it at times with this projector.
With our previous rear projection DLP Mitsubishi's RBE was very annoying to me.

Using the AVS HD 709 disk and a Sony PS3 I set the display mode to "Reference" and checked brightness, contrast, color, tint, overscan, and sharpness.

I was pleased that the Reference Mode was nearly spot on. The only adjustment that was off by more than +/- 2 was sharpness. I backed down sharpness a bit. Overscan is zero.

The fan is nearly silent except in high altitude mode which I should be using living at 7600 feet above sea level.
Wish I could find temperature readings in the main or service menus to see the difference. High altitude is way too loud.

The picture quality of the HD25e is stunning, particularly at the current price point.
Highly recommend the HD25e to anyone looking for a budget 1080p projector.

Thanks for the report to us, bbm3.
Rainbow effect at times especially at white/bright background with black/dark object in front? And with that do you still enjoy watching?

So I took my hd20 into best buy today because the focus keep Going out. Every time I would go to watch a movie I would have to redo it. Been that way a while but didn't want to be with out the projector. Doing some work in the room where my rack is and it will be down for a while so figure be a good time to take it in to get fixed. Well they tell me they don't fix it I just get a new one. So they have the new model sent to me and just have to buy anoughter service plan.

Yup yup.... customers pay for things like this in the large markups they pay. When I bought my HD 65 best buy wanted $500.00 more plus tax for the same projector ..... I could have almost bought two at the time.... I decided to take my chances with the online purchase and then bought two more to install in friends houses (Well they paid for them of course smile.gif )

I didn't really pay any mark up on the hd20 I bought got it opened box for 899.99 2 years ago.. So turned out in my favor I think..

Bright white surrounded with black.
For example a vertical white stripe on a black background.
I think I am hypersensitive.
I am also bothered by florescent lights "flashing" @ 60 hertz.

Yes I enjoy this projector. The RBE is really minor for me and no one else who has seen our projector sees RBE.

Hope that helps,

Hi i received these, I tried it and did not see any difference from the ZF2100 on my optoma HD25.

But does anyone tried them to tell me the difference ?

So I got my HD25e Today replacing HD20.. So far I really like it.. The blacks are a bit better as is the shadow detail. Just watched a few parts of Sherlock Holmes game of shadows. Use to look like a lot of dark blobs now I can make out detail. This thing is stupid bright though .. My eyes are hurting at the moment lol. I just ordered a ND2 filter to help with that. I don't watch 3d as I gives me head aches. I only got to mess with it for about an hour and most of that was mounting it and calibrating the color and brightness.. I will report back after I have watched a few things on it..
Give it a few hundred hours and it will dim down a lot.
Yea I'm sure it will but until then I will be running the ND2 filter..

Watched a few movies on it now. Really liking it. Blacks are a lot better then the hd20 it replaced and I'm getting use to the brightness. Really happy with the upgrade. Just need some masking bars and I will be good for a while.

I do see a very subtle difference between those two. I bought one of those off ebay, and then one of the Optoma's. The Optoma has a very slight better contrast and pop. They are also more comfortable. They are not the exact same glasses they claim. Even the finish is different. The rubber nose piece also is more flimsy and easily falls off, but on the Optoma, they are properly fixed. I suppose a little glue would solve that, but still pretty shoddy in that respect. After comparing, I bought two more Optomas. The difference is well worth paying the extra $8 for the ZF2100's, IMO.

Did you mean to write $ 80 ?

Hi Friends

Anyone has install this in a rear shelf at the top of ceiling projecting a 92" image?

I have the throw distance for 92" image but not sure if I can have it placed on a shelf upright.

Thanks!

It projects at an upward angle.... best best is something like a $20 mount from ebay..... that what I used for my HD131xe which is virtually the same projector besides a $500 price difference and a black case... otherwise you have to flip it upside down and support it with something like foam on a shelf..

thats an odd one. we do have it in the states (hd30B) but being that it uses the older higher wattage 25lv 240w bulb but with a low 1600 lumens ouput it may not be as popular as the light cannon versions... I wonder if the contrast is noticably better...

I can post a few pics on Thursday when the replacement gets here and I get things set-up properly. I won't have a chance to mess with it until then.

I realise you will be returning it but I had a hd65 do this onece when new... geve it a few taps (not smart for bulb I know) but the issue went away and never returned.... there was a poor connection inside somewhere causing this.
