I wanted a TV for the bed room. One of my friends picked up a Sammy at BB with Netflix. Ok cool. I hooked it up and played around with the Smart TV part. I was an anxious to get one hooked up on my network to see what I could with it.
Fast forward to today... a 32" Samsung SmartTV showed up in the mail. I get it mounted up and installed. Fire it up, install the ALLShare server software on my server. It finds the TV instantly and I share my video folders in the program.
After the database is updated which only takes a few min, I turn to the TV and select the server as a DLNA device. My video folder is full of nothing but ripped MKV's. Most unknown formats. But bit for bit Blu-rays.
Out of the 5 video's I randomly selected, It played 4. The server is on Gigabit ethernet and the TV is on Wireless N with good channel separation.
I was floored it played MKV's so well. There was no buffering, stuttering, and it will output DD through the optical port. Though not TRUEHD or DTSHD (its a bedroom lol).
Not bad for one device and $450 including mount. Maybe HTPC days are numbered.
