Just constantly use Shock on the robots and Murder of Crows on the people. That's 90% of the game right there, and it continues to work during that fight. (It did on hard, at least).
Yeah I used Shock exclusively, and the RPG a lot, was playing on Hard too
post #274 of 796
You can do combos also. Murder of Crows + Devils Kiss is my favorite.

I did it finally. I was doing shock and crows, but that wasn't the issue. It was always at the last rush of guys. I finally finished by using the charm on the rocket launcher guys. I would always get tied up dealing with the metal guys, and everyone else was wasting the ship.

I used the piece of clothing that would shock nearby people after you killed one with excessive damage. Was a nice help. My game was saved with sniper and carbine, no carbine ammo on the ship, sometimes would get lucky with drops. So I went through most of my carbine and switch up to rockets to kill the metal men.

I loved the little studio session at the end of the credits. I wish I could see more stuff like that.

I was also trying to do the entire game without dieing. So that's why I was having a tough time. I restarted the checkpoint a bunch.

The Walking Dead - got to be the most awesome point & click adventure game I've ever played. Lots of fun.
Playing through Spec Ops the Line. Pretty fun short and dirty game. Seems a little easy though, I have it on the hardest setting for first playthrough, I've died quite a few times, just being impatient, not because it was too hard.

I'm assuming it's short, it feels like I'm probably about to finish it, and I'm at 5 hours play time.

I don't think I can finish it. It's pretty repetitive. The story is pretty good, but you just shoot a lot of stuff. It gets old after a while.

Just finished playing The Walking Dead from Telltale games. WOW. I can't believe I derived SOOO much enjoyment out of this game, with it's old school point and click engine. The story line rivals the best I've ever played, and it's one of the most, if not THE most engaging I've ever had the pleasure of playing. I should note I've been played since nintendo, and before that actually had an " intellivision " as a child, so I've played a LOT OF GAMES. I've got a gaming rig, a gtx 680 4g nvidia card, 7.1 surround, and this little old school indie game just punched me in the heart. I spent the last 3 minutes trying not to cry, and doing a poor job of it. Thank god no one saw me sniveling - lol. Anyways, WELL worth the 25 bucks or so it costs. No wonder It won over 80 awards last year!

I couldn't get into that walking dead game. It's not my type of game though.

Does anybody play minecraft on PC ?

Reason I ask, is my kids recently got it for the PC, and they don't know how to add mods to the game. They want to try the Hunger Games mod, and the Survival Island mod. I haven't had a chance to look into how to add mods on, but the computer they are using is a Windows 8 PC, and I'm not too familiar with using that OS. (I hate it, to be honest).

Anyways, just wondering if there was any Minecraft experts in the house that could shoot me a PM to give me the skinny on how to add various mods in Minecraft, and what are the sweetest mods. Thanks.

Windows 8 has no effect on MC. And really, it's no different from 7 if you ignore the metro interface. I paid $5 for Start8 and now never have to use Metro.

Anyway, to the topic at hand, most mods are just in zip archives and to add them is pretty simple.

Go to the user folder, make sure hidden files and folders are shown, go to the AppData folder, then Roaming. In there you'll see a .minecraft folder, open that up and if there's no folder called "mods" make one and drop the mods in there.

C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft

The only problems arise when you start to add too many mods that conflict with each other.

As for a mod recommendation, look up Feed The Beast, there's a lot of different mod packs to choose from in there, but if your kids JUST started playing, it might be a bit of overload as they add hundreds of new items and stuff.

Sorry for OT, but WOW, thanks for that. It works brilliantly. I'm impressed with all the features they give.

I never had a problem with Win8's metro, but tried Start8 and it's easily worth $5. cool.gif

Best part is you only ever have to buy it once. I use it on my desktop and laptop, when you install it you just click the box saying you already activated, log in with your stardock info, and bam, it validates

Word on the street is the upcoming revision of Win 8 will bring back boot to desktop and the start menu....maybe I'll consider upgrading then.

Meh, already does this for me, and $5 is cheap as crap.

Just finished Mark of the Ninja this weekend (2D sneaky action game) and it was fully worth the price of admission. The stealth elements are among the best in any game, and it gives you a ton of special techniques and cool ninja gadgets to play with as you work through the missions.

I do have a few quibbles though - it has only one difficulty setting during the first play through, which is pretty easy. This is made wose by an overly-generous checkpoint system that doesn't punish you enough for mistakes. There is a New Game+ optin when you beat it that says everything is a lot tougher, but the first experience should've been more difficult IMHO since the game isn't that long at all.

The other issue I have is that the controls aren't as fluid as I expect in a ninja game. There is an extra input command added to a lot of actions, which prevents you from easily chaining your moves smoothly - there is often a hitch or pause as it waits for you to input the next command.

For instance, you don't just stealth kill an enemy with a single attack command, you have to initiate the assassination and then input the random QTE command before it comes out. This results in a pause in the action while it waits for you, and you end up looking at this command instead of the actual action as it happens. You also have to input extra commands to climb down a ledge, enter a crawl vent and more. I think that MotN would benefit from action fluidity that you get from old classics like Shinobi 3 on the Genesis while maintaining the excellent stealth mechanics.

I spent more time on my perceived 'cons', but I actually love the game over all. The story is decent enough; it doesn't get in the way of moving the game play forward at least, and the graphics are rather pleasing considering the genre. Highly recommended.

NGP isn't that much more difficult...you just have less information about your surroundings. I don't think enemy behavior or placement changes at all. The real challenge come from trying to beat it without being detected.

I actually really liked how deliberate you have to be about everything. It leans more stealth than action, forces you to play with precision than attacking head on. One of the suits you can unlock does let you get around the quicktime kills, makes it a lot easier to chop people up.

Amazing game though, I really hope they make another one.

Yeah, who knows. We'll see later this year. If I got a new PC with Win 8 I wouldn't uninstall it, Id prob just get start 8 like everyone suggests. I know its not that bad, but its going to take more than a bolted on tablet UI to get me to upgrade. Eventually they'll figure out how to make it worthwhile for desktop/laptop users, could take a few more revisions though.

I see this sentimentality a lot, and I honestly don't understand it. They launched it super cheap, and its a more efficient Win 7. There just happens to be a tacked on Metro UI that with a quick $5 you can ignore completely. For $35 I got a legit copy of Win 8 for both my Desktop and my Laptop, and the normal start menu back. EVerything is functionally the same, anything that ran on Win 7 has no problems in Win 8 that I've encountered so far. How could it be any more worthwhile? $15 for a legit OS, or $45 or $60, is still cheaper than previous versions. Granted it's not that price anymore, but still, wht I always suggested was if you were even mildly interested, to buy it while it was cheap at launch, just to hang onto it, install it when you wanted.

Anyway, back to the games topic. Just picked up Dead Island: Riptide. Had a blast with the first one, can't wait to start the new one.

To be honest, I don't even understand the complaints about the start menu being gone, but that's just me. Windows 8 has been the best HTPC interface I've had yet:

I've actually gone back to Dishonored recently myself. I hadn't gotten through the entire game (can't remember what, but something else came out that distracted me) and the release of the DLC inspired me to finish it up and play the DLC. It's ridiculous how much more I enjoy this game than Bioshock Infinite.

My gripe is less about the start menu, than the lack of improvement in the desktop UI. For instance, a scaleable taskbar that could hold more apps at once (like OS X) would have been great.

I wonder, how well does the start menu play with an Xbox 360 controller? If they can make it so that *everything* is fully usable with just a controller (popping up an on screen keyboard where necessary) - that'd be pretty killer. But it'd need to be usable end to end, including the control panel.

It doesn't work at all with a 360 controller, unfortunately (which I agree was stupid). Individual games do, but not the menus. I use my IR remote to navigate it though.

To be honest though, I haven't touched the Control Panel or the Metro "PC Settings" since the day I set up the PC, so I don't really agree on that part.

Really? I'm actually kind of shocked that it doesn't work at all.

I guess it doesn't need to be end to end. But Id like basic file management, user profiles, etc - basically what you'd need to make it into the uberconsole. I'd be so on board with that.

You could sort of half do that. use Joy2Key and map keys to the controller for basic functionality. And I think you can map mouse movement to a thumbstick. Not 100% on that one though.

Gamepad control: I don't know if this program is worth anything because I haven't tried it - just something I remember reading:

Yeah you can map mouse movement....I used that program waaaay back in the day, before HTPCs were known as HTPCs. Prob is then every time you hit a button, you're spitting out keystrokes, which causes all sorts of issues.

Preferably we shouldn't need to resort to third party software.

Well that's always the preference, but in his situation, he may not have a choice.

Yeah for me personally, I just use either my IR remote control or a mini Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for navigating the start screen. It'd definitely be nice but isn't a necessity for me that the controller works there, so I haven't bothered.
