And from a gameplay stand point, some of my decisions weren't handled right I thought - when I was looking for the lost little girl close to the end near the abandoned house, I was suspicious of the large object sitting behind her dropped cap on the ground. I wanted to carefully investigate it but the game wouldn't let me. So when I picked up the cap and a zombie popped out, I got bit through no fault of my own.

Yeah that damned kid. I kept siding with him and trying to get him out of trouble / saving him because I thought in the end there would be some grand redeemer for his character or something. All he did for me was fall off a roof, get impaled, and in his death probably get Kenny Killed! ... I should have let Kenny kill him on the train, or left him to die at the first possible opportunity! rrrrrrrr.

Yeah, it seems to branch off for a while, but eventually something will happen to bring it all back.

For instance:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
It didn't matter whether you went with the nerd or the journo at the beginning - they couldn't keep that branch going for 5 episodes....so either one gets shot in the face by Lilly. Generally any time you had to choose between one character or another, they'd eventually end up dead anyway.

Still, the fact that characters would react to your attitude had a profound effect on the storytelling, even it didnt go off in an entirely different direction as a result:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
after breaking out of the sewer into the old people's hideout, I went really soft on them at first, and we seemed to get along just fine for most of the episode. Somehow I lost that save, and decided to get aggressive with them. Neither the old guy or the lady that comes with you to the school trusted me after that.

Edit: Bah, can't figure out the spoiler tag on my phone.

Anyone playing the Swapper? The reviews look great and the gameplay looks interesting.

Debating on whether to pick it up now or wait for the eventual price drop but at ~$11 it doesn't seem too bad a deal.

Help me pick something to play next. I just finished Bioshock Infinite, which you should also play. I also just finished Aliens: Colon Marines, which you should not play.

I bought it, but ended up getting frustrated that for some reason it's stuck in 24Hz when I have it set to 1080p, so I haven't played it yet.

Using HDMI I assume?

Bought that Alan Wake pack for 4 bucks. Flashlight batteries are your friend.
Not as much fun as Tomb Raider.

Yeah. I looked in the config files for something to force it to 60Hz, but nothing.

I had the same issue with Crysis Warhead. It's some weird bug, where I assumes it searches for the lowest available refresh rate, which on a PC, is usually 60hz, but over HDMI at 1080p, 24hz is an option. It might work fine in 720p, but the workaround for 1080p in Crysis was to just alt-enter or alt-tab to bring it back to the desktop, and hope it doesnt switch back when you switch back to the game.

I also had the 24hz issue with the Crysis games. The solution is to go into NVIDIA control panel and create a custom resolution of 1916 x 1080 at 60hz (32-bit). Then for these games select this custom resolution. Sounds weird, but it works.

lol, I wish I had known that before I played through the whole thing in 720p. tongue.gif

I googled all over, couldnt find anything.

Is this a problem with Crysis 3 because I haven't noticed it on my Plasma? Would the FPS show locked at 24fps?

Def not crysis 3. I believe it's just warhead and C1.

Believe me, you'd know something was wrong if you we're stuck at 24fps. tongue.gif

OK thanks! I have original Crysis but haven't played it much due to lack of good controller support. I don't recall the fps feeling that low though with it when I did play it.

I don't have Crysis 3 yet, but had the issue with Crysis 1, Warhead, and Crysis 2 Maximum Edition. The issue seems to be using HDMI to a TV with these early Crytek games.

btw, Crysis 2 has good gamepad support - the one bumper engages cloak, the other armor.

Not as much fun as Tomb Raider.

Snagged that too. fun stuff so far. Feels like a horror novel. Glad I didn't get it for 360. It'd look like a damn Wii game.

hey darklordjames, noticed you haven't played :

deadspace 3
good game

dishonored
very good game

joe

Thanks, Joe. I did play Dead Space 3, but it's Origin only so not in my Steam account. It's actually the only game I've bought on Origin. Much better than DS2, not nearly as good as DS1. For Dishonored, I'm waiting for it to drop below $10. There's a pretty good chance that the stealth aspects will not be my kind of game.

I loaded up Alice: Madness Returns last night. Great art. Poor character motion. Fun combat. Too long. howlongtobeat says it will take 14 hours or so, but I will be done with its mechanics by hour four, I imagine. Yet another game that desperately needed an editor to take control and make the experience more focused and concise. It's too bad because I feel that it would be pretty fantastic at a 5-6 hour length.

I'm thinking Alan Wake, or going back to Metro 2 next, but I'm not sure.

I recently bought Crusader Kings II with DLC (except new Old Gods one) on sale and started playing it. I'm guessing it's addictive because I put in 30.6 hours in 3 days according to Steam (whoops). smile.gif

And I'm reminded once again why I love PC gaming most. So many low-cost gems out there that give me hours and hours of enjoyment. And then you bring in modding . . .

I just link my Origin titles to my Steam account.

Is this something beyond putting a game icon in the Steam library for the Origin titles?

I ended up buying The Swapper last night and didn't have any issues outputting 1080p @ 60hz via HDMI to my Plasma. The game looks great and the gameplay is excellent!

Origin and Uplay are the monkey wrenches to good PC gaming. Seems it's best if I just think of them as the 3do and sega saturn of pc eco systems. Yes they have these games that you want to play but its hard dealing with another box and set of cables and controllers just to play that one game each has.
I've deleted Crysis 3 from my PC. I was never able to find a good solution for making a backup copy from Origin. I'm not downloading it again.
What other games from Origin are must have's in the future?
The only other game I want from origin is Dead Space 3. I'm guessing the new simcity is origin too. But I'm waiting on a good below $15 sale for that one.

I suppose he means adding the game through the little + icon at the bottom of steam. You can add non steam programs in there. Not sure what that does for you though. Not like it's going to prevent origin from opening up.

I'm actually playing Hydro Thunder Hurricane through the Win8 store. Fun game too, better than the 360 version aside from lighting. I loved playing the original back in the day on the Dreamcast so I was all for buying this.

I hear this all the time but I don't think having to use Origin and Uplay is that big a deal. I've played multiple games with each and have had no serious issues. Yes they suck compared to Steam but if you want the game you have no choice in the matter, so you either live with their crappiness or do without.

Bought Alan Wake for $3 on Steam last weekend, really enjoying it so far.
I keep having flashbacks to that old Twin Peaks show while playing Alan Wake. Instead of the crazy log lady we get the check the light bulbs lady.

Loved Dead Space 3. Played through 3 times so far. Weapons crafting took some time, trial and error but I am finally a badass.smile.gif
