TWC NYC 8300HD Diagnostics?

I had a 8640 (I think) that stopped working. Tech came, tol,d me the problem was that it "didn't have enough memory" to hold the latest software (which I assume to be OCAP Navigator). He instals a silver grrrrrr) 8300HD, I say that is a seriously old box, he says it's the latest and greatest.

He had no clue what size the HD was... and I know one CAN get that information from the diagnostics. Problem being that the old "trick" I know to access it doesn't work (select & info).

Anyone know what the current keystrokes are to access the boxes diagnostics? I'm having a FUNNY feeling they are pulling a scam on me as the box says "Scientific Atlantic" and I know that changed a LONG time ago.

Keystrokes to enter diagnostics depends on firmware - SARA or PASSPORT. AVS has this info in separate threads on page 4 or so of this section. See "Tips and Tricks..." thread.

The 8300 has about 1/3 the memory of the 8640 and a slower CPU. It was discontinued years ago.

Ah, thanks... it all slowly comes back to me...looked at a few other threads and none of the tricks work... undoubtedly because they seemed to be 6-8 years ago!

The box is going back for sure, it's a major downgrade from what I had and also says the tech flat out lied to me.

Just to finish off this thread, I took the long hike to a TWC center near me (~½ mile), told my tale of installer deceit, the guy said he'd take care of me. Gave me an 8742, which looks and sounds like IT is the latest. No more switching to component to view OnDemand, he said it has a 500G drive, USB & Ethernet (wonder what for?). Asked about adding additional HD space (not that I need it if it does have 500G) he said nothing "official" but I should do some googling (which I took to mean it isn't disabled by TWC, I recall in the past they did give out boxes that were capable, but they disabled that capability).

Now to go look for the keys to get diagnostics on this box...
