Help Choosing a Projector & Screen for HT

Just joined this forum, so much great info here! We are in the process of building a home theater in our basement and are now researching projectors and screens. My husband and I are novices in this area, so any and all help is MUCH appreciated!

Our room size is: 14'8" wide and about 19' deep

We will have two rows of seating (4 and 4 or 4 and 3 - still undecided)

The doorway into the HT is an opening - no door and will only be covered by a curtain. We also have a boxed window that is open behind the seating that will have a counter bar height with seats - for the times when we have more people than the theater can hold. People sitting outside can look in and watch.

Given all of this, what kind of projector and screen do you all recommend? The little I have read talks about lighting coming into play if you don't have a completely dark room. We were considering just a flat screen TV, but Samsung is our chosen brand and they only make a 75" TV, with an 85" on the way, but no available date as of yet.

Not sure what our budget is yet, so send all recs regardless of price our way!

Thank you!

You should ask your question over in the projectors subforum. Light can be a big issue with projectors. However, if you can get some control over ambient light, there are some really bright pjs out there. I have a Benq W6000 DLP projector that does relatively well with low levels of ambient light. It is easily bright enough to handle watching a football game with an acceptable amount of light in the room. But for movies where critical watching occurs, it can be much more important to block out as much light as possible. Again, check out the projector forums here.

I have a epson 8350. It can handle ambient light pretty well. Make your own screen. Check out the diy forum
